15 October 2020 – Pick Your Battles – Part 10

Isaiah 41:11-12 “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.”

Old testament is the shadow of the New Testament. The strategies of winning battles in the natural are the steps to victory in the spiritual, with supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. Today we do not face Canaanite, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and the Jebusites raging against us but we face the battle of jealousy, fear, slander, sickness, injustice, prejudice, resentment, bitterness,  hatred, gossip and curses that disrupt our life, steal our peace, prosperity and possessions. There is no bloodshed in these battles that we face but there is disgrace, humiliation, fits of rage and animosity. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). No matter how fierce the battle is, no matter how politically, financially and economically influential the enemy is, he will not prevail over us. We are overcomers through Christ Jesus.

In the Bible, God has made 7,487 promises to man. Joshua and the Israelites had to fight to inherit the promise land, similarly, we must win over the spiritual battles that we face to inherit these promises. Just naming and claiming does not bring it to fruition. Calibrating our lives to the conditions attached will fulfil the promises and enable us the enjoy the fruitfulness of the promised land. The promises and promise land is all ours through Christ Jesus but we have to possess it with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Three tips to be overcomers, winners and champions over the spiritual battles and inherit the promises:

1.     Sonship: We are sons and daughters not, servants or slaves. Our children don’t beg for food or clothing. Similarly, our prayers need not be repeating our shopping list or pleading for protection. There could be many battles that the angelic forces could be fighting on our behalf that we are not even aware of. 2 Corinthians 6:18 “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” Sonship empowers us with supernatural defence mechanisms.

2.     Fellowship: Our continuous fellowship is crucial for victory. It is during our fellowship that we understand the battle strategies, secrets and the schemes of the enemy. God will equip us with spiritual gifts and will reveal the secret plans of the enemy even before we step into the battle.  Psalms 119:98 You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.  Fellowship equips us with divine weapons.

3.     Kingship: We are co-heirs, co-rulers and co-partners with Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:17) The son shares the inheritance by birth. He automatically qualifies for co-ownership and rulership. Similarly, we qualify to become the king’s kids when we are born into the family of Christ by faith. The hosts of heavenly army is at our disposal. God even hurled large hailstones against our enemies (Joshua 10:6). He will send hornets to sting and chase the enemy who comes against us (Deuteronomy 7:20). Kingship and kinship encircles us with divine protection.

Because of Christ, we fight these battles from a place of victory. We parade triumphantly even before we step into the battlefield. When we put on the armour of God and remain still, He will fight the battle for us. We fight from victory, not for victory.

2 Chronicles 20:17 “This battle is not for you to fight; take your position, standstill, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf.
