20 October 2020 – The Exchange – Part 5

Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden.

The divine contract that was signed at the cross and sealed with the blood of Jesus included several clauses and appendices.  Jesus did not just promise sufficiency but satisfaction to the soul. He promised fullness in famine, bounty in drought and lavishness during a time of lack, scarcity and insufficiency. When we walk in the blood covenant, the circumstance will not control us; “we will be over the circumstances not under”. Deuteronomy 28:13 If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Isaac flourished during famine and reaped a hundredfold while the heathens around him were famished (Genesis 26:12-33).

Similarly, we see that Ahab, the wicked king, eyed the vineyard of Naboth. Ahab had acres of land, orchards and gardens but he envied the small piece of vineyard that belonged to Naboth. 1 Kings 21:2 Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard.  It is not the size of the garden that attracted Ahab, but the fullness, productiveness and lushness of Naboth’s garden. The eyes of the wicked will always be on the private, precious and protected garden of the righteous, as the hand of the Lord will make it flourish!

Jesus has exchanged the dryness of our soul, with fullness, fruitfulness and flamboyance :

1.     Full: During a time of famine, recession and depression, the Lord has promised richness. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land. When the Lord is our guide, we will find pastures even in paucity. COVID cannot throw us under the bus. If God blessed the efforts of Isaac, He will bless our labours as well. Exercise the “fullness clause” of the blood covenant and change the emptiness into fullness.

2.     Fruitful: During a time of dryness, God has promised fruitfulness. Ezekiel 47:12 Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. The secret of the fruitfulness is the source of the water trough. We will remain fruitful spiritually, emotionally, financially and physically when we drink from the living waters that flow from the heavenly sanctuary. Isaac prospered a hundredfold when others were plummeting and going under. Exercise the “fruitfulness clause” of the blood covenant and challenge the barrenness into fruitfulness.

3.     Fertile: During a time of recession, God has promised progression. Jeremiah 17:8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. Isaac’s garden was plentiful, bountiful and beautiful during famine that the Philistines were envious of Isaac. Genesis 26:14 He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. When we exercise the “fertility clause” of the blood covenant, we will remain fertile even in famine.

We must actively exercise the blood covenant during the time of famine to flourish, become fruitful  and fertile. Jesus has exchanged parchedness with prosperity. He will satisfy our soul in drought.

Ezekiel 47:12b Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.
