03 Nov 2020 – Currency – Part 1

Isaiah 66:1 “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.

Currency is a system of money used in a country for commercial transactions. As we use currency to do business deals in the natural world, there are divine currencies that we use to do divine deals. Many prayers are left unheard, unanswered and unreciprocated as those divine deals are negotiated with carnal currencies. We can never buy the favour of God with our cash,  coins or currency. Isaiah 1:11 I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. Divine transactions are made with the currency called “faith”.  Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him. Our Dear Saviour is not looking for a bag full of gold coins or a bank account bursting with currency; He is only looking for a mustard seed faith to complete the miracle transaction that we seek.

To experience a miracle and have a divine encounter, the currency that is essential is “faith”. Peter saw Jesus walking on water and he wanted to walk with Him. It was the “gift of faith” in the heart of Peter that arose the urge to jump into the raging sea. When the currency of faith depleted, Peter started to sink. Jesus said, “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31).

Three lessons from Peter on divine deals and divine currencies:

1.     Invest: Peter had the faith to step out of the boat but he did not have the faith to endure the stormy sea. It is faith that helps us to step out of our comfort zone but we need more of the divine currency to sustain us in the storm and walk on the sea. To suffer from the sickness and speak healing, to perceive the recession and prophecy progression; to witness depression, aggression and oppression and proclaim victory, deliverance and success would require much more than little faith. Invest your little faith and it will multiply into great faith. Step boldly into the water and see the currency of faith multiply; when we sink, Jesus will lift us up.

2.     Intrigue: Peter was fascinated when he saw Jesus walking on water. All the twelve disciples saw Jesus walking on water, but only Peter jumped out of the boat. Faith is activated with exciting and challenging encounters. Faith is like currency. If it is not employed to the right use, it will not increase. Money buried under the ground will be safe but will not increase. Similarly, dormant faith will faint but faith challenged and elated will increase from little faith to more faith.

3.     Intrinsic: The intrinsic value of the spiritual currency will increase as we exercise it. It is like building a muscle. When fear gripped Peter’s heart, he started sinking but Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him (verse 31a). The faith currency in the divine bank account of Peter quadrupled after he walked back into the boat with Jesus. Stressful, shocking or sinking experience will only increase the intrinsic value of the spiritual currency when we reach out to Jesus, the source.

The supply of the spiritual currency is from the source Jesus. All who are thirsty can come to the divine reservoir for a divine drink. Only the currency of faith can purchase divine products of health, peace and joy.
