19 Nov 2020 – Tug of War – Part 5

Deuteronomy 18:10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD.

Practice of sorcery, superstition and spells can cause ravaging war in families, communities or homes. Demonic attack is very real and is still practised in different parts of the world. Witchcraft has crept into and is very much prevalent in the western world as well.  Witchcraft is widely practiced in order to gain control of a situation or to cause hindrances to the progression of another person or family. Divination or any kind of occult practice is a means to tap into the wrong source for power, knowledge and control. When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? (Isaiah 8:19). Hence the Lord detests such evil practices. We have been anointed with the Holy Spirit to guide, lead and advice.

Consulting spiritists, fortune tellers or mediums and involving in superstitious practices opens the door to the demonic. The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd. (Zechariah 10:2). The sin of Israel was dabbling between witchcraft and worship. They practiced sorcery outside the temple of God but brought peace offerings into the presence of God. Such practices are deceptive and demonic. In such cases the demonic will win the tug of war and drown us in the bottomless pit.

We might think this does not apply to us but the modern day occult practices are listed below:

1.     Sorcery: Occult objects might come into our homes as a lucky charm, wind chimes, esoteric paintings with mystic vintage astrology, magic crystal balls, pendants or jewellery. Beware of such objects.  Any objects that is advertised to bring prosperity, profit and opulence is clearly an occult object. Dump and discard such objects  as this will open the door to the demonic.

2.     Spells & Superstitions: Spells not only include the curses that have been imposed by witchcraft but also self imposed curses. Even when frustrated never pronounce curses on yourself or on your children. Repent and reverse it. Parents must speak positive, affirmative and reassuring blessings over their children. Even calling the children with obscure names causes the cloud of curse to settle on the children. Superstitious beliefs esteems satanic influence over Godly protection. Many are still afraid to step out of the house when a black cat crosses the road. Seeking astrology and numerology are also superstitious occult practices. These are detestable practices.

3.     Stubbornness: We seldom think stubbornness is an occult practice. 1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Stubbornness and control steals surrender and submission to the will of God. Stubbornness is the root of demonic control in relationships and causes ungodly soul ties. Saul the great leader of Israel lost his anointing and authority because of his rebellion to God’s word and stubbornness. Refusing to surrender, forgive and submit can open the door to the demonic.

Those who are involved in occult practices are doomed for eternal condemnation, but those who are covered by the blood of the lamb are protected under the shelter of the Most High God. When God is in control over our lives, we will win the war of the occult.

Do not practice divination or sorcery (Leviticus 19:26).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to any occult objects, wrong superstitious practices and ungodly stubbornness. Keep me under the shadow of your wings and cover me with your hands. Amen
