17 Dec 2020 – Covenant Meals – Part 6

Esther 5:4 “If it pleases the king,” replied Esther, “let the king, together with Haman, come today to a banquet I have prepared for him.”

Queen Esther hosted a banquet for King Xerxes and his right-hand-man, Haman. Haman had conspired to annihilate the Jewish people from the face of the earth as he detested Esther’s cousin Mordecai. Haman neither knew that Esther was Jewish nor did he know that Mordecai was Esther’s cousin. Haman, the enemy of the Jews had written a script and dispatched by courier to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, women and children, on a single day. Mordecai who was traumatised at the decree and approached Esther to petition before the King and reverse the verdict. Esther did not wear sack clothes and stand before the King lamenting. She approached the King in royal robes, after three days of fasting and organised three banquets for the King and his henchman Haman before she made her appeal to the King. On the third day after a sumptuous dinner, Queen Esther exposed the enemy Haman and petitioned, “If I have found favour with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request (Esther 7:3).

Communion table is the table of prayer, prize and protection. It is not an ordinary meal, but a meal of consummation, intimacy and union with the Saviour who gave Himself for us. The communion meal seals our prayer, secures our protection and siphons the prize and praise from the heavenly sanctuary .

Communion, covenant meal is a meal of appeal, repeal and divine deal:

1.     Appeal: Communion table is the table of petition, prayer and plea. It is a place where we can have a heart to heart intimate talk with the Lord over the dinner table. Esther 5:6 the king again asked Esther, “Now what is your petition?. Esther delighted the King’s heart with a delicious meal and then put forth her petition. Her appeal was granted, the enemy was appalled and Mordecai was awarded.

2.     Repeal: Communion table is the place where the enemy’s plans are frustrated, curses are reversed and injustice is revoked. At the dinner table of Queen Esther, the evil decree of Haman could not be revoked hence another decree was written by Mordecai to empower the Jews to protect themselves.  However, the communion table can revoke any curse, chanting or chime pronounced against us. The bread and wine entitles, empowers and energizes us with the power to repeal, revoke and rescind the enemy’s scheme.                                   .

3.     Deal: Communion table is where the ordeal is overturned into a divine deal. Communion table will turn the evil planned for us into good. Wicked Haman hung on the same pole that he built for Mordecai. The three day banquet of Queen Esther concluded by eliminating the wicked and rewarding the righteous. Mordecai became the right-hand-man to the King.

Communion table is an intimate place of comfort, closeness and confidence. The elements of bread and wine bring us close to the Saviour’s heart. It is brings our problems and the Provider; the sickness and the Saviour;  the mystery and the Master, together. It is a table of appeal, repeal and divine deals.

Psalms 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, you have beautifully orchestrated to bring us, your mortal children, to be one with You, through the divine deal of communion. Help us to tap into every detail of the blessings you have in store for us through the communion table of consummation. Amen
