20 Dec 2020 – His Name – Part 2

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The name of Jesus is “Counsellor”. We have to pay a fat sum of money to meet with counsellors today. Many times the waiting list to meet the psychologist, counsellor or therapist could be longer than the time we take to heal from the emotional pain! However, the top-rated, unmatchable, unparallel and incomparable Counsellor is our Dear Lord Jesus. When Jesus was on the earth, He was able to be only  in one place at a time. Hence He said, It’s to your advantage that I go away, for if I don’t go away the Divine Encourager[Counsellor] will not be released to you. But after I depart, I will send him to you (John 16:7). This Divine Encourager, therapist, psychologist and Counsellor The Holy Spirit, is available 24/7. He is available during weekends, public holidays and even in the middle of the night.

This world is polluted with deception. There is deception in the media, twisted truth in science, sociology and psychology. Worldly knowledge can cause confusion through deception if there is no discernment. If Darwin’s theory of evolution was true, wonder why the animal cages in the zoo are not turning into human homes, schools and hospitals! If the Big Bang theory is a fact, wonder why a printing press does not explode to produce a dictionary or a directory. Worldly wisdom, research and investigations are meaningless without divine revelations. An atheist, antagonist and agonist would need more faith to believe in evolution and cosmic expansion of the cosmos, than to put His trust in the divine Counsellor.

Three ways to tap into divine counsel, direction and guidance:

1.     Humble: If we sit at the office of a therapist, rigid, stiff and stubborn we will be wasting time, money and effort. Similarly, if there is no “humility”, our time seeking the counsel from the Divine Counsellor, The Holy Spirit, will be futile and fruitless. Isaiah 66:2b “These are the ones I look on with favour: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.   Only the humble can receive counsel from the Divine Counsellor.

2.     Amendable: If we approach a counsellor for advice but we are inflexible and closed with our views and perspective, we are again wasting the resources of the counsellor and throwing away our money. Similarly, our Divine Counsellor will convict our decisions, change our views and correct our ways. Only if we are open to alter, adjust and amend our ways, views and choices will we receive counsel from the Divine Counsellor. Even the prayers of the obstinate will be detestable (Proverbs 28:9).

3.     Teachable: Finally, divine counsel will inform, reform and transform us only if we are teachable. Ephesians 4:18b The ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart. Be open to learn, receive and absorb wisdom and counsel. God can even use the mouth of a donkey to warn, correct and advice.

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus is available to us anytime, anywhere and any hour of the day to teach, correct and guide. With the Divine Counsellor with us we will not be stranded, stuck or trapped with confusion.

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Prayer: Welcome Holy Spirit, I welcome you to be my divine adviser, counsellor and guide. Teach me, correct me and mend me to know and to walk in the truth. Amen
