1 Peter 2:21 For you have been called for this purpose.
To many, the flip of the calendar into a new decade would have been a time of partying, feasting celebrations and crackers. However, to those who have discovered their purpose, it is another year of new challenges, heights and accomplishments. As we grow older our purpose must get younger, bolder and brighter. God who is beyond time, created us within time, seasons and years. God designed seasons for a reason. From day one to day five of creation, God saw that it was good but on the sixth day, God saw all that he had made, and it was very good (Genesis 1:31). On the last day of creation, the picture was complete and the purpose was accomplished, hence it was very good. Each of God’s creation has a purpose, the sun gives light and the trees bear fruits. Even the little butterflies that has only a lifespan of a week or two assists with pollination and productivity. Each of God’s creation is good but when it accomplishes it purpose, it becomes “very good”. You and I have been created with a purpose.
Have you found your purpose? If you can’t find your purpose figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose – T D Jakes. Nelson Mandela was a practicing lawyer but his passion was the freedom and liberation of his people which translated into purpose.
To find your purpose ask yourself these three basic questions:
1. What?: What do you want God to tell you when you meet Him? What do you want people to say at your funeral? Mr Obama said it took “a man like Mandela not just to free the prisoner but the jailer as well”. Jesus gave Stephen, the first martyr a standing ovation as he was stoned to death for his fervour for Christ and entered glory triumphantly. If we look back at the footprint that we have left in the past and we don’t like what we see, we must be dare enough to change our footwear. Pursue your passion to fulfil your purpose and make a difference.
2. Who?: Purpose always involves people. The knowledge of a man with five PhDs is of no use if he doesn’t share it. Achievements and accolades that promotes a person is not purpose, it is just success. Motivating, encouraging and enlightening others to achieve is the fulfilment of purpose. As soon as the ruthless Saul was converted to passionate Paul, he boldly preached the same Christ whom he persecuted (Acts 9:20). Our purpose is defined by the number of people we are able to influence, encourage and develop. Start passionately serving those around you and the needy will soon find you.
3. How?: Activity without purpose will drain you however when passion drives your purpose the ride with be exciting, exhilarating and elating. Passion is the magnetic power that marries purpose and potential. People who are purpose oriented don’t need a pulpit to preach, a stage to perform or an audience to applaud. They will breath in passion and breath out purpose. Jesus preached sitting on a boat and Paul preached in the sinking boat in the middle of the storm. Figure out your purpose and your purpose will figure out how to accomplish it.
What is the why behind what you are doing? If we do the same thing over and over again, we will get the same result. Find your purpose by pursuing your passion and make a difference.
Happy New Year!
Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are a God of “newness”. Thank you for the brand new year and a brand new start. Help me to find my purpose and accomplish it. Amen
