17 Jan 2021 – Ladder – Part 3

Psalm 85:10-11 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

The ladder that takes us to the podium of “God’s Justice” is truthfulness and righteousness. Our heart yearns, burns and cries out for God’s justice over the tyranny and torture of injustice. Many a times, in this society, justice is subtly hidden behind the lies of fame, flamboyance and facade. We are desperate to get even with the offenders. We want to give them a piece of our mind and mistakenly misconstrue that our longing desire of justice will be satisfied. The wrath, words or works of man will never fulfil the justice of God. James 1:20 the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. It is the ladder of righteousness that will take us to the pedestal, platform and high place of God’s justice.

God cannot be manipulated by our emotions, tears or sentiments. We can fast until we get to size 6 but that doesn’t move God, only our right standing with Him will take us to the courtroom of God. “Righteousness” is not a “churchy word”. It is a legal word used to define our daily choices of right and wrong. Righteousness is our right standing with God and man in the light of God’s word. Never mistake law for justice; Justice is an ideal and law is the tool. Righteousness is paying or tax on time, abiding by the road rules and treating our neighbour the way we expect them to treat us. Righteousness is speaking the truth even if it hurts our ego. This ladder of truth and righteousness will take us into the plateau of  God’s justice.

Three sense checks to “righteousness”:

1.     Godliness: Our holiness is not proved in the number of hours we pray or the number of days we fast but in the way we treat each other. 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. The steps of righteousness will trample over unforgiveness, gossip and hatred to climb up the ladder of patience, forgiveness and temperance.

2.     Goodness: Sometimes we can do the right thing for the wrong reasons. When the motive is wrong, we are on the wrong ladder. Wrong motives will take us to the shaky, false podium of popularity, fame and prominence. Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Public applause does not endorse God’s approbation.

3.     Generosity: In God’s standards of justice, “generosity” is not measured by the size of our gift but the size of our heart. Jesus marked the offering of the poor widow who gave two copper coins the highest score above those who poured tons of gold into the treasury of the temple. Mark 12:44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.  World will measure generosity by how much we give but God will measure generosity by how much is left, after we give.

To enjoy Gods justice we must do what is right at all times and in all places. Only those who climb the ladder of righteousness will witness the vindication of the Lord.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.
