20 Jan 2021 – Ladder – Part 6

Psalm 144:1 Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.

There are no wins without wars. The ladder of victory is over the steps of struggles, strikes and sacrifices.  A defensive army that is waiting for the enemy to attack will never advance.  We can never win if we don’t persevere and advance. We get ourselves into spiritual battles and personal struggles only when we want to improve, progress and move forward in life. Winning our dreams, overcoming struggles and conquering knockdowns is the pathway to victory. So, dislodge from the place where we are stuck; toughen up, tighten up and tenaciously fight back the forces that tie you down.

A young teenage boy David did not have the physic, training nor armour to face the giant but he had the right attitude. It was not his aptitude but his attitude that made him victorious. Optimism is half the battle won. David announced his victory even before he stepped into the battlefield. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head (1 Samuel 17:46). David won the battle in his mind before he won the giant.

Three virtues that transforms us into victors:

1.     Inform: David knew the secret of his strength. Hence structure, skill-set, sword or spear could not intimidate him. David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied (1 Samuel 17:45). When we are informed about who we are and whose we are, no demon, dragon or devil can terrorize us. We fight from the place of victory.

2.     Reform: David had to reform the thinking of the king. King Saul gave him his coat of armour and bronze helmet but David was not trained to use the battle artillery. Hence he went into battle with what he had, (a stone and a slingshot) and not with the sword of the king. God has embedded all that we need within us. Faith is the shield, His word is the sword and our prayer life is the spear that will penetrate into the enemy’s camp and defeat him. We don’t have to run from pillar to post to seek the help of others. We have the Victor living within us. We don’t fight for victory but from victory.

3.     Perform: David’s courage was shot down by his brother who could not look at the shepherd boy as a soldier. Eliab, David’s brother said, “I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle” (1 Samuel 17:28b). Little did Eliab know that David did not come to watch the battle, he was sent to win the battle! Never indulge into vain arguments to prove your accredits and credentials. Never let the words of others deform you. Let pessimistic comments transform you into a performer, overcomer and victor. Performers don’t fight negative words they win wars.

Victories do not come without challenges; only those who preserver win the war. Climb up the steps of discouragements, defeats and disappointments to go up the ladder of victory. The victor King Jesus has already won this war for us, so we can never be defeated. We can lose some battles but we will ultimately win the war.

1 Samuel 17:47 “All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.”

Prayer: King Jesus, teach me to use my weapons of warfare, the blood of Jesus, the name of Jesus and the Word of God and win every battle I face. I fight from the place of victory! Amen
