03 March 2021 – Rain – Part 6

Matthew 7:25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

The moral of the story of “The Three Little Pigs” is, that “our strength will be tested by the storms”; “Our choices will determine the wisdom or foolishness”. Similarly, Jesus gave us a very simple, practical and intuitive parable of the wise and foolish builders. The true test to the sturdiness of a building is determined by the strength of the foundation and will be tested by rain, storms and floods. If the foundation is strong, the structure will be safe. The wise man is not the one who knows the Bible from cover to cover but the one who applies the Word of God in his life. Head knowledge does not make us wise, it make us well-informed but it is the heart’s commitment that will make us wise. When the heart is planted in the Word, our life is safe in the storms.

A heart cemented by the promises of God and built on the hope in Jesus Christ, cannot be ruined by the rain of rejection; by the streams of disappointments; the winds of frustration or the storms of hopelessness.

Three effects of the rains, storms and winds:

1.     Fallible: Fallible foundations are sure to crack, crush and fall. When the foundations is on the sand of pomp, prosperity and popularity, we will be shaky and crumble down. If our security is in our bank balance, career or affluence, when recession hits, our hope will fail and wash our house away. The foundation of our house can be checked by the feelings that we battle in the trials. The fallible foundations of fame, friends and fortune will collapse and fall in the storm of depression, disappointment and recession.

2.     Flexible: Flexible foundations are sure to shift, loosen and give way. Pliable, plastic and pliant material are not good for foundation. These are people who have a mixed life with one foot in the Lord and another foot in the world. They change colours and camouflage to fit in everywhere. Their stand in the Lord is frail, fragile and flimsy. They are wobble in their belief, shaky in their stand and disjoint in their faith. The foundation of our house can be checked by our reactions to the fierce winds of criticism, comments and condemnations. The rain of uncertainty, doubt and insecurity will destroy a flexible foundation of compromise.

3.     Firm: Firm foundations are durable, long-lasting and tough. Stones, bricks and cement are used to lay strong and sturdy foundations. Colossians 2:7 Plant your roots in Christ and let Him be the foundation for your life. Firm foundations are laid by layering and reinforcing our heart with faith, hope and trust in the Lord. God’s Word says, “do not be anxious about anything”; It teaches us the fear of man is a snare. A wise man would treat anxiety and fear as a sin and drive it or rebuke it. Calmness is the cement to a solid foundationFaith is the rock for a firm foundation.

The rain of temptation, the storms of sickness and winds of recession cannot blow away a wise man who has his firm foundation on God’s Word, His promises and His love.

1 Corinthians 3:12a &13b If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw;..Their work will be tested by fire and the fire will show what kind of work each one did.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, if there are any fallible, flexible, pliable and plastic in my foundation, I surrender it today. I commit to put my trust only on You, the infallible, reliable and unfailing firm foundation. Amen
