12 March 2021 – Snake Line – Part 1

Psalms 18:33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights.

Snake line is a height in the mountains beyond which snakes cannot climb or live as the atmospheric conditions are not conducive to their survival. Venomous snakes such as rattlesnakes, copperheads and pit vipers can live in a range of habitats, from deserts to tropical rain forests to bare mountain slopes of around 13,000 feet  (4,000 meters) high.  The atmosphere is too thin above the snake line for the snakes to thrive. Snake lines are the spiritual sand lines above which the devil and his demons become spectators and not stingers. Psalms 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. This is a line where the enemy will have visibility but no access into our lives. The moment they step across this line to hurt us they will suffocate and die but if we wander below this line they will harass and devour us. Ecclesiastes 10:8b whoso breaks a hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

As we graze and climb the mountain of life, we must make sure we cross over the snake line to come under the shadow and safety of the Almighty God. The protection of Psalm 91 and the shelter under His wings are above the snake line. The wanderers below the snake line will be attacked and bitten.

Three essentials to make sure that we live above the snake line:

1.     Confess: Snake pits are secrets, unconfessed sins and sly surreptitious that are hidden in the dark crevices of our heart. Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Overturn every snake pit by confession. Cry, confess and come clean before the Lord and accept forgiveness by His blood through faith.  Transparency before the Lord is the key to find mercy. Nothing can be concealed before the Lord; He knows our ugly sins anyway. So, confession, transparency and lucidity takes us above the snake line. Confess don’t conceal.

2.     Close: Snake pits are cold cracks that allow snakes to slip in. Holes provide the perfect nesting spot for snakes. Holes in your backyard could be the openings to snake burrows. Spiritual emptiness, exhaustion or emotional erosion could be entries to the snakes. When we feel dry, dull and deserted we are below the snake line and will be prone to attacks. Low self esteem, self pity and sycophancy are slippery pits that must be closed. Pour the water of God’s word into the dry hole. Light the fire of praise and raise above the snake line. Spiritual dryness is like a slimy pit that will pull us deep down into the snake pit swiftly. Praise and raise.

3.     Climb: To climb uphill is hard work. The mountainous tracks are sharp, rocky, incredibly steep, and look almost impossible to climb, yet, the deer climbs these impossible treks. Their back feet step exactly in the same place that their front feet stepped in moments before. To reach the height of safety we must learn to follow the feet that walked before us. Jesus said, “Follow me”. When we follow Him in our daily responses, reactions and choices, we will find ourselves in new heights every day. Climb, don’t recline.

Climb above the spiritual snake line of safety and security into the shelter of the Most High God.

Isaiah 65:25 They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, when the going gets tough, make my feet like the feet of the deer to climb up into the high places of safety above the snake line. Amen
