18 April 2021 – Spirit of Excellence – Part 3

Numbers 14:24 But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.

Excellent people conquer what mediocre complain about. People will excellent spirit will sing through what the mediocre will start and be startled at. Caleb had an excellent spirit and the Lord Himself, was a testimony to the excellence of Caleb. When we get a tap on our shoulder or a recognition from our boss, it is pleasurable and cherishable. Caleb’s appraisal was done by the Lord Himself and the recognition and reward came directly from the storehouse of Heaven. If we delve deeper into the attributes that made Caleb standout while his generation perished in the wilderness, he was dedicated, devoted and trustworthy. A person with excellent spirit will serve, contribute and be involved ardently. Caleb was distinguished by his dedication.

People with excellent spirit are solution finders and problem solvers. They will only talk about the solution, not the problem. Twelve went to spy the land that the Lord had already promised to give the Israelites. They did not spy to see if they can but how they can conquer and possess the promised land. Ten came back with bad reports but Caleb and Joshua came back with strategies to overtake and defeat the giants. Excellent people talk about techniques and strengths not troubles and weaknesses.

Spirit of Excellence and devotion:

1.      Calmness: Excellent people are devoted to the task entrusted to them. They will not waiver, falter or shudder when stressed. They will remain calm in the midst of the challenge. Numbers 13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. Caleb calmed the crying mob that was resisting and racketing. People with excellent spirit will not back off, cringe or coil back when challenged. They will remain calm and devise strategies to go forward not recede backward.

2.      Confidence: Caleb spoke with confidence to the shivering crowd. Caleb and Joshua encouraged the disheartened throng  with the assurance that God will do just as He has promised. Do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them (Numbers 14:9). They did not speak with confidence from their physical strength or skill but with confidence in the Promises of God. Confidence is a sibling of an excellent spirit.

3.      Consistence: It was only Caleb and Joshua who were qualified from their generation to enter into the Promised Land, while the other counterparts perished in the desert. Caleb remained consistent after 40 years and took the most difficult, tough and challenging territories of the Promised Land. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! 11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. 12 Now give me this hill country (Joshua 14:10b to 12a). At 85 years, Caleb climbed over the hill country, fought and defeated the giants. Time, test or trail will not tamper the confidence of a person with excellent spirit.

A person with excellent spirit will always be calm, confident and consistent in the midst of the fierce challenge.

Numbers 14:12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to be a person of excellence, calm, cool, confident and consistent. Amen
