21 May 2021 – Shadow – Part 1

Psalm 91:1 “He who dwells in the secret place of the most high will abide under the shadow of the Almighty”.

Where is the secret place and how far does the shadow of the Almighty extend? Is the Almighty gigantic to cover us or is He large and ginormous to overshadow our home, our county or even our country? These are questions we have to answer to fully understand the above verse. If the secret place and the shadow of the Almighty are inseparable, then the secret place must be His presence. His shadow will follow His presence. The secret place is not a physical place, prayer closet or a corner in our home. It is not on top of the Himalayas or far above the heavens, it is the cloud of His presence in and around us. It is our sensitivity to our Saviour. The ethos of His presence is the “secret place” of the Almighty and the dimension of His “shadow” is the diameter of His enormity in our hearts. If our problems consume our thoughts, then the size of the Saviour is extra small in our hearts. If we envisage Him as a lofty mountain, He will overshadow our domain and we will rest and abide under His shadow.

We are shadowed by what overshadows us. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by (Acts 5:15). Peter was abiding and dwelling under the shelter and the shadow of the Almighty, 24/7. Hence the healing power of God permeated on anyone who was under Peter’s shadow. When we are diametrically overshadowed and concealed under God’s presence, our shadow will be therapeutic imparting healing, restitution and restoration.

Three ways to remain under the shadow:

1.     Dwell: The secret place of the Almighty is not a prayer corner we visit for few minutes in a day, it is our dwelling and our domicile. It is the “base” from which we operate. Our physical movement does not and should not alter our spiritual platform. We might be at a secular job or a social gathering, yet, we must dwell under the spiritual radar of His secret place to be overshadowed by His protection, provision and perception. Take Him with you wherever you go, and remain under His protective cover.

2.     Discuss: The secret place is where strategies are discussed. When we are under the shadow of the Almighty, we will be more aware of His voice, warnings and advice than the noise of people around us. The proximity of the Almighty to our hearts will make our spiritual hearing sharper. The closer He is, the clearer will be His directions, deliberations and discussions.

3.     Draw: We can draw near Him even in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the day, at the street corner or at a crowded crossing. Peter was just walking on the road but the viscosity of God’s presence over His life and the shadow that was overshadowing him infused into the atmosphere and healed the sick. The lying couple, Ananias and Sapphira fell dead under the shadow of the Spirit of Truth.

The size of the Saviour in our hearts will determine the dimension of the shadow of the Almighty who is overshadowing us.

Psalm 24:8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are great and mighty, awesome in power. Help me to remain under the protective cover of your shadow to overcome the crisis, challenges and COVID. Amen
