26 May 2021 – Shadow – Part 6

Isaiah 51:16 I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand, to establish the Heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’

Normally, a physical examination with a physician begins with examining the tongue, as the tongue can say a lot about our health. The tongue is not the strongest muscle in the human body but it is one of the most sensitive muscles. Tongue muscles are the only muscles in the human body that work independently of the skeleton. Hence it is known as muscular hydrostat.  James says no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison (James 4:8).  The only way to put a bridle on the ‘muscular hydrostat’ that has no backbone is to remain under the shadow of the Almighty God.

The soul that is overshadowed by the Almighty will be tamed, true and tranquil. As the tongue indicates the physical health of the human body, our words spell out the wellbeing of our soul. We are shadowed by what overshadows usA tamed tongue will be trustworthy not tumultuous. James 3:2 Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. To check our spiritual health, we must test if the tongue is trustworthy.

The shadow of the Almighty renovates the words of our mouth:

1.     Tamed: “Tamed” simply means “controlled”. A person who is overshadowed by the Lord, will have a controlled tongue. They will not speak what they want, feel or think. Their words will be anointed, balanced and honest. The Lord will put words in their mouth, not their emotions. The language and vocabulary of a tamed tongue will be Godly, loving and valuable. There will be no vain babbling, unprocessed jabber  or useless gabbles. Proverbs 12:18 There is one who speaks rashly, like a piercing sword; but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Tongue tamed is not a tongue twisted but tongue tested.

2.     True: Living under the shadow of the Almighty gives us no provision to falsehood, deception or dishonesty. Those who are overshadowed by the shadow of truth will have no trickery, tale telling or turpitude. Whose mouths speak deceit, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood (Psalms 144:8). The shadow that overshadows us will control both our words and our actions. The righteous will not just speak right but live righteous, trustworthy and praiseworthy lives.

3.     Tranquil: The tranquillity of the tongue and our words is the true test to the shadow we are sheltered under. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1). Harsh, brash and blatant tongue are demonically driven tongue teasers. The shadow of the Almighty will touch our tongue and make it polite, polished and poignant.

The shadow of the Almighty places chords of love over our tongue. Our tongue will not be notorious or nasty but be sensitive to the needs, challenges and pressures of others.  When we live under the divine shadow, there will be congruence in our tongue, talk and touch,

Jeremiah 9:1 Then the LORD reached out His hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.

Prayer: Our Dear Lord Jesus, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my mind be acceptable in thy sight.  Transform my tongue to bring glory to your Holy name. Amen
