03 September 2021 – The Blood – Part 1

Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”

One of the most frequently asked questions by the agonistics and atheists is “Why was it imperative for Jesus have to die on the cross as an atonement for sins to redeem humanity?”.

Blood is essential to keep the human body alive. Blood transports oxygen and nutrients to all the different parts of the body to keep it alive, healthy and functioning. Blood removes carbon dioxide and other waste materials from the cells of the body. It regulates the temperature, and the water content of cells. Blood also contains the cells of the immune system. When there is loss of blood due to a surgery, injury or blood disorder causing anemia or hemorrhage, blood transfusion becomes inevitable. Blood transfusion replaces the blood lost and revives life as “life is in the blood”.

Allegorically a major incident/accident happened in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve disobeyed the instructions of the Lord God. Sin injured the human soul causing bleeding, hemorrhage and spiritual coma. Sin causes spiritual death and the only way to revive the dead human soul is through blood transfusion of the holy, sinless blood of Jesus. The more we wallow in sin, the deeper are the cuts and hence the more bleeding. Sin caused permanent hemorrhage, perpetual bleeding and spiritual unconsciousness. The only One who was eligible to be the donor was Jesus who lived an unblemished life. All great men, sages and saints had some dysfunction, weakness or flaw. Hence, the Bible says, Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.

The blood of Jesus revives the dead soul and revitalizes our spiritual man:

  1. Transports: As blood transports oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and to the rest of the body. A lack of blood supply to body causes the tissues to die. The blood of Jesus revives the heart, hands and head that were dead due to habitual sinful lifestyles. The blood of Jesus pumps forgiveness, acceptance and love into the lungs of our spiritual man.
  1. Regulates: Blood regulates heat throughout the body. Blood vessels dilate and contract when the body interacts with the environment or when there are internal changes. Similarly, the blood of Jesus balances our emotional and psychological challenges such as anger, irritation, stress, anxiety or animosity. When we are constantly washed by the blood of Jesus, our spirit man is kept humble, honest and holy.
  1. Protects: The white blood cells protects us against illness and disease. Likewise, it is the blood of Jesus that washes our stains and shame. Sin is contagious and infectious. One sinful habit can corrupt our whole spiritual being. Constant cleansing with the blood keeps us clean and uncontaminated. The blood protects us from disgrace, debasement and the death sentence

The pure, holy blood of Jesus is the only antidote to resuscitate our corrupt sinful nature. Spiritual revival is possible only through the blood of Jesus.

1 John 1:7 The blood of His Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.

Prayer: My Dearest Lord Jesus, thank you for shedding your precious blood to revitalize my dead soul. It is only because of your blood that my indestructible soul lives forever. Amen.
