Leviticus 14:17 The priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering.
Bacteria, parasites, fungi, or viruses can enter into our bloodstream even through a hangnail and can contaminate the blood causing blood infections. The most common blood infection is known as ‘sepsis’. If sepsis is left untreated it can cause permanent organ damage. The symptoms of sepsis are confusion, shortness of breath, high heart rate, fever, shivering and severe body pain. Blood infection if left untreated will even result in death.
Similarly, ‘spiritual sepsis’ will cause spiritual fatigue, disinterest, weariness, muddled up theological convolution and leave us with an enlarged or puffed prideful heart. Symbolically, the priest in the Old Testament was instructed to apply blood on the right earlobe, right thumb and right big toe as a protection to the ear gate that corrupts the mind and on the hands and the feet to prevent misdeeds and misdirection. However, physical application of the blood of animals could not and did not stop the spiritual rebellion of humanity. Hence the holy blood of the lamb Jesus was required to bring us into purity, holiness and sanctity. 1 John 1:7 if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds Him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, continually cleanses us from all sin (TPT).
The blood of Jesus protects our spiritual gates to walk in Godliness:
- Thoughts: ‘Spiritual sepsis’ or spiritual blood infection causes spiritual weariness, weakness and emotional exhaustion. Constant pessimism, defeated capitulating thoughts can be overcome when we anoint our earlobes or the ear gates of the mind with the blood of Jesus. The ear gates will automatically shut and repel any devious, insidious and dangerous ideas, thoughts or dreams that try to enter our mind and infect our bloodstream. Apply the blood of Jesus on your earlobes every day.
- Thumb: Spiritual sepsis like physical sepsis will cause our hands to shiver, heart to pound and lungs to suffocate. However, anointing the thumb with the blood of Jesus will protect the hangnail infections. It is always the little foxes that spoil the vine. The anointed thumb will stop the distracting clicks, touches and connections and fence us from destructive communications and derailing entertainments. Apply the blood of Jesus on your thumb every day.
- Trajectory: Sepsis causes excruciating body pain. Spiritual sepsis will spread quickly to the entire body causing inexplicable severe emotional pain. The right big toe was anointed with blood to protect and purify the path. The blood of Jesus over our trajectory will guide us to choose the path of righteousness, integrity and goodness. When the fierce, baffling wind of temptation blows against our sails, the blood of Jesus will keep us steady in the divine course. Apply the blood of Jesus over your trajectory every day.
The blood of Jesus protects us from spiritual sepsis or blood infection. Our thoughts, touch and trajectory must be sanctified by the blood of Jesus every day.
Revelation 12:11a They triumphed over him (devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I cannot live a holy life without the sanctifying blood of Jesus. Jesus I apply Your blood over my life and protect my inner man from spiritual sepsis. Amen.
