Matthew 6:22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
Light connects us with the universe. The twinkling stars in the night sky draws our attention to the skyline of the galaxy. Stars are not little as the famous rhyme goes; they are humongous hydrogen and helium luminous balls, scattered in the Milky way. In the SpacePlace website, NASA had stated, “We have found stars that are 100 times bigger in diameter than our sun”. The closest star is about 25,300,000,000,000 miles away from the earth! Yet the twinkling lights connect us with the cosmos.
Jesus said, the eye is the lamp of the body as it connects us with the world around us. The function of the eye is similar to the lamp. As a brightly lit lamp accentuates the aesthetics, the eyes illuminate the soul.
Natural light initiates conversations between the eyes and the body. If an object is hurled at us, the eye catches the image, conveys the footage to the brain and the brain warns the limbs to move away from the menacing danger. Divine light connects the eyes of the heart to the soul (mind). The truth from the Word of God is the guiding light of our lives. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105). If the mind refuses to respond to the alerts from the eyes of the heart, we will stumble into wrong choices and erroneous decisions. The heart is enlightened by the lamp, the Word of God and is elucidated by the light of the scriptures.
Eye is the lamp of the body:
- Colour: The colour of an object is the colour of light which is reflected by the object. A red object absorbs the other colours and reflects the red light. Natural light on an object will reflect its true colour. Light from the Word of God will reflect our true nature. Scriptures will reveal the true colour of our inner self. For where you have envy and selfish ambition(ego), there you find disorder and every evil practice (James 3:16). The root cause of dysfunctions will be revealed by divine light. Light reveals the true colour.
- Connect: The nearest star to our solar system is 25 trillion miles (4 light years) away but the light energy from the glowing stars from the giant dome connects us with the universe. It is only the light of the world(Jesus) and His Word that connects us with the Almighty in Heaven. No astronaut can measure or estimate the distance between heaven and the earth but the Light of the Heaven (Jesus) unites the celestial and the terrestrial. Light connects.
- Communication: If we wear blue or grey goggles everything around us will look dull and dim. Similarly, unhealthy eyes will corrupt the mind and flood the inner being with darkness. What is seen cannot be unseen, so watch – what you are watching! Porn and perversion are like UV rays that will sunburn and damage the soul. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. Light communicates.
God’s word is the light that guides, leads and directs us into a bright future.
Matthew 6:23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, lead me with your Word and guide me with your eyes. Amen.
