31 July 2022 – How Great is Our God – Part 1

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

We have still not moved on from researching beyond Genesis 1:1. NASA is still in the process of unfurling the heavens that were created 6,000 years ago. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope was launched on 25th Dec 2021. It is the successor of the Hubble telescope, launched in 1990. Webb Space is 1 million miles away from the earth whereas Hubble was only 340 miles from the earth. NASA revealed a few incredibly mind boggling pictures taken by James Webb for the first time on July 12, 2022. The images from the camera of ingenious shows stunning visuals of orange and red gasses, spinning galaxies and dying stars far into space. Webb has the capacity to look 13.6 billion light-years distant and has discovered that millions of galaxies exist. “We’re potentially looking at the most distant starlight that anyone has ever seen,” says Rohan Naidu of the Harvard Center for Astrophysics.

The Lord God, magnificent and sublime in power spun the gazillion galaxies that we are only discovering now. He spoke and the heavens and the earth were created. Earth is a dot compared to the sun and other splendid stars in the galaxy, and humans are miniscule beings on the earth. However, the Lord says, “I have called you by your name; You are Mine” (Isaiah 43:1). Even the latest James Webb Space Telescope launched by the scientists of NASA has captured only a nanoscopic view of the grandeur of God’s creation. The scientists and scholars are still unpeeling Genesis 1:1. How Great is our God!

God has a micro, macro and magnificent view of the universe:

  1. Micro: The same God who can measure the gazillion galaxies with the breadth of His hand cares about every detail in our life. With the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens (Isaiah 4012b). In the palm of His hands He has engraved each one of us. See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me (Isaiah 49:16). The great, big, wonderful God, splendid in majesty, has a microscopic view of every detail in our lives.
  1. Macro: James Webb has captured a cluster of five galaxies that is 40 million light-years to 290 million light-years away from the earth. If the images of James Webb marvels us how much more must the overarching vision of the Lord amaze us. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love (Psalm 33:18). The Lord who watches over the cosmos with a macroscopic view also has His eyes on us.
  1. Magnificent: As more and more images from James Webb Telescope are released, it must only strike us with awe and amazement of the magnificence, grandeur, and glory of our God.

How great is our God who has rolled the vast stretches of the galaxies into being with His Word.

Isaiah 40:28 The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

Prayer: Glorious Father, as I delve deeper into your magnificent power, I am overwhelmed by your glory. Oh, there is nothing too hard for you. Amen.
