08 September 2022 – Who is God? – Part 5

Exodus 17:15 Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the LORD is my banner”).

God is our Jehovah-Nissi; He is our victory. Banners are primarily used to advertise brands, events or products. Hoisting a flag or raising a banner was of great significance in ancient history, it wasn’t an event on auspicious days. Flags and banners were erected when the battle was won. Banners were raised to propagate that the enemy had been defeated. To the children of God, the Almighty Lord God is our banner of victory.

Moses stood on the top of the hill with hands lifted high while Joshua fought the Amalekites, a formidable ancient nomadic race that relentlessly attacked Israel. Joshua was fighting the fierce tribe with a bunch of untrained soldiers who did not even know how to wield a sword. As Moses lifted up his hands in prayer, an angelic army descended and annihilated the Amalekites. He said, “Because hands were lifted up against the throne of the Lord, the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.” (Exodus 17:16). Moses lifted up the banner of victory even before the battle was won as there is no battle that God has lost or ever will. We don’t fight for victory but from victory.

Lifting up holy hands in reverential prayer is the banner of victory that will obliterate the demonic army that attacks our family and our finances. When our hands are tired and our hearts are weary of waiting, get a fellowship of prayer warriors to surround and support you. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset (Exodus 17:14).

Jehovah-Nissi is our banner of victory:

1.     Vindicator:  God’s vindication came down on the wicked as Moses lifted his hands towards the throne of God. For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants (Psalm 135:14). As our hands rise up towards the throne of God, His wrath obliterates the demonic enemies. So, let our hands never get weary. God is our vindicator.

2.     Vigil: The vigil of Moses, Aaron and Hur on the hilltop brought triumph against the dreadful enemy. “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thes. 5:17). A vigil of prayer is the secret of victory.

3.     Victory:  There is no battle that we will lose as long as our hands are lifted up in prayer. When the adversary shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of Jehovah will lift up a banner against him (Isaiah 59:19b). The Lord God is our banner of victory!

Jehovah-Nissi is our banner of victory. Prayer brings vindication and victory.

1 Timothy 2:8 In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.

Prayer: God my Vindicator, I vow to hold the banner of victory with hands lifted towards your throne even before I see the triumph. As I lift up holy hands, the dreadful demonic forces will be defeated. Amen
