10 September 2022 – Who is God? – Part 7

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge.

God is All-knowing, All-seeing and All-wise. He is Omniscient. God knows ‘everything’ throughout all of ‘eternity’. There is nothing that He had to learn or understand. There is nothing that He does not know! It might be hard for our myopic minds to wrap around the omniscience of God as we are finite beings who gain knowledge and understanding in stages. The modern day discoveries are only a tiny slice of the omniscience of God.

In Christ Jesus, we can draw all the knowledge, understanding and wisdom that we require to excel in life. Your commands make me wiser than my adversaries, since they are always with me (Psalm 119:98). To be smarter than our opponents who try to belittle us, we must hide God’s word in our hearts. Dr. Myles Munroe in his testimony shares that as a teenager he moved from an “F” student to straight “A+” in one term after he started reading and memorizing the Word of God. At the age of 14 he memorized the gospel of John. He said that the New Testament helped to give him a new perspective on life even in his early teens. From the small improvised Island of Bahamas, Myles got three bachelor’s degrees in four years, a master’s degree in eighteen months and five doctorate degrees from five universities!  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7). The wisdom of Myles overflows in almost all walks of life – scripture, business, finance, family, relationships, moral ethics etc. Godlessness can give us degrees but not wisdom. Myles was not just knowledgeable but he was wise.

Aligning our lives to godliness, faithfulness and integrity makes us wise.

Our God Omniscient:

1.     Knowledge: There is no topic that God does not know. He knows everything; even the undiscovered knowledge of the world. The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly (Proverbs 15:14). We have no time to be bored in life. Not even a minute should be wasted in unproductive conversations or engagements. Age is no bar for us to be abreast with the new discoveries, innovations and creativity.

2.     Understanding: Understanding is hearing God’s will for any specific situation or challenge. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6b). Knowledge is general information but understanding is specific knowledge for our specific situation. It could be a task at work or a challenge in our personal life. Understanding is applying the knowledge by hearing God’s instructions and directions.

3.     Wisdom: Wisdom is application of the knowledge by divine understanding of hearing God’s voice. The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. (Proverbs 18:15). Tune in to listen to God’s view on any matter. He will speak wisdom through His word.

All-knowing Omniscient God is our wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Prayer: God of Wisdom, I will tune my heart to acquire knowledge, my ears to receive divine understanding and to be led by your divine wisdom. Amen
