Numbers 25:11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal..

“Passion is wholehearted devotion; it is fervor and agony; it is temper and zeal.”

Our passion and zeal for the ‘Lord’s honour’ turns curses into blessings. The sedulous zeal of Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron, the High Priest, softened the anger of God. On the way to the Promised Land, Israel prostituted with the gods and the women of Moab. The men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods (Numbers 25:1b-2). The Lord God had warned them repeatedly not to pollute themselves with the pagan practices but even before entering and possessing the Promised Land, the Israelites indulged in willful waywardness against God. Phinehas arose zealously to purge sin out of Israel.

Zeal is the spiritual adrenaline that pumps energy into our soul. Zeal is the passion to give our best to the Lord. Zeal is an insatiable hunger to bring honour and glory to God. The more you serve God the more voracious ‘passion’ becomes. Phinehas was able to overturn the consequence of curse on his family line by his zeal to bring honour to the name of God. The Lord God made a covenant of peace with Phinehas and ordained his generation to serve Him under an eternal covenant. He/(Phinehas) and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites” (Numbers 25:13).

God is looking for one man or one woman to rise up zealously to turn the curses into blessings in their families. When we rise up passionately to honour the Lord publicly, the bloodline curses will turn into blessings.

6th Key to turn curses into blessings:

1.     Confess: Boldly confess that you are a child of God. Don’t hide and cover among work colleagues to declare your faith. “Everyone, therefore, who will confess me before children of men, I shall confess him also before my Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 10:32). We can pray for hours in our prayer closet but Jesus would disown us if we are hypocrites in the social circle. Make your faith public. Confess zealously.

2.     Profess: Bravely profess your faith to non-believers but do it with love. Speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). It is wrong to judge, condemn and criticize non-believers but it is also wrong to condone and compromise. Take your stand but do it with grace and love. Profess lovingly.

3.     Fearless: Zealous faith brings honour to the Lord. We might lose friends and popularity but if we are willing to lose anything/anyone for the honour of His name, the zeal will bring covenantal blessings and ministry to our family line. Preach fearlessly.

Zeal to bring honour to the name of the Lord God turns curses into blessings.

Numbers 25:12 Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.

Prayer: Father God, fill me with courage, wisdom and love to rise up passionately to confess and profess my faith fearlessly. Amen
