27 October 2022 – Resume – Part 5

James 5:17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

Prophet Elijah was fire breathing dynamite who could shut the heavens for 3 ½ years. He was a legend! The CV of Elijah was endowed with boldness, audacity and passion for the Lord God of Israel. The crescendo of his career was on Mount Carmel when he stood alone against 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah, the Canaanite and Syrophoenician gods. These Baal and Asherah spiritualists were special guests of honour in the table of the Queen Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, the King of Israel. Elijah was a one man army against the team of pagan bloodthirsty occult sorcerers who were backed by the queen.

The team of 850 pagan prophets cried, shouted, danced and slashed themselves with swords and spears until they bled from their body, still both Baal and Asherah did not respond. Elijah ridiculed them, “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling (vs 27). They strived from morning until evening and it was almost time for evening sacrifice which would have been about 3pm. Still there was stony silence.  Then it was Elijah’s turn to call upon his God. Elijah’s prayer was only less than 60 words, prayed in about 15 seconds and fire fell from heaven. The Lord God accepted his offering and answered his prayer. So, the highlight of Elijah’s CV was his courage and the secret of the invincible bravery was his confidence in the Lord.

What does our CV look like under spiritual attack?

1.     Fire: Elijah’s short and simple prayer was packed with faith. It was the faith of Elijah that made him a brave prophet and brought fire from heaven. He just believed that God was on his side. He fully trusted that God was not going to put him to shame. Above all, He knew that the heaven, the earth and the wind must obey his word when he speaks in the authority and power of the Holy Spirit. Unshakable faith is the fire that will bring the answer from heaven.

2.     Fervor: Elijah could not stand the children of God going astray and worshipping idols made of stone, wood and clay. Elijah challenged the silent spectators of Israel, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21).  The fervid fervor of Elijah brought the fire anointing upon him. Fervor/passion ignites a fire anointing in us.

3.     Fear: Elijah’s strength was attacked after the great victory on Mt. Carmel. The fearless legend trembled like a mouse when a threatening letter came from Queen Jezebel. Elijah wanted to throw in the towel as he was attacked by depression and suicidal spirits but God sent his angel to watch over him and restore him. Fear quenches the fire but faith ignites fervor.

The highlight of Elijah’s CV is his faith in the Lord that made him a fearless, feverous and a fire-breathing prophet.

1 Kings 18:38a Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice.

Prayer: Father God May I be filled with the anointing of Elijah that brings answers from heaven and shame the diabolical forces. Amen
