29 October 2022 – Resume – Part 7

John 12:26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me.

The only resume that would fit into all job descriptions is that of Jesus. He would qualify as a physician, psychologist, prophet, teacher, coach, counselor, artisan, engineer, barrister, designer, master builder and so on.  The condensed version of the CV of Jesus is “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Luke 4:18-19a). He engineers the bits and broken pieces of our life into niche useful equipment. He is the only specialist who can treat the untreatable disease. He is the wonderful counselor who installs hope in the hearts of the hopeless. He is the Master builder who makes everything new and gives us a brand new start. There is nothing that Jesus cannot do.

Those who follow Christ Jesus must do what He did. Our CV must look like His. Everything we do must accentuate Christ-likeness. Jesus said, Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:29). We will be able to radiate the nature of Jesus only when we learn from Him and follow His footsteps.  The quintessence of the life of Jesus was His ‘humility’ and ‘holiness’. God Almighty our Creator made Himself nothing by clothing Himself in flesh and blood. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing (Philippians 2:6-7a). To reflect Jesus in our life the three fundamental qualities that we need to cultivate are humility, honesty and holiness.

Our CV must emanate Christ:

1.     Humility: Humility is not weakness, it is strength under control. He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:8). Our humility will be tested by the cross that we have to carry. The cross could be a difficult relationship, finance, or health issue. When tested, our reactions and response will exterminate pride and inculcate humility. Getting angry with God does not help. Put on the cloak of humility and wait for the power of God to work the miracle in His perfect time.

2.     Honesty: Honesty highlights Christlikeness in us. We must stand for the truth not to boast or brag religiosity but to bifurcate right from wrong. Jesus said, “I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37). Jesus came to establish truth and standing for the truth, in love, as Jesus did will truly reflect the nature of Christ.

3.     Holiness: Even the Roman governor Pilate confessed, “I find no basis for a charge against him” (John 18:38b). Those who have no known sin in their life are striving towards holiness.

Our life and resume must strive to reflect Jesus.

Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, make humility my innate nature, truth my testimony and holiness my décor and clothing. Amen
