1 Thessalonians 5:23 “May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The ethnicity, education or affluence does not define a person. Those who draw their identity from the nationality, colour, creed or career are fooling themselves with a façade that would soon vanish. “Beauty is how you feel on the inside, and it reflects in your eyes. We are a tri-part being. We are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body. Body is only the outer shell that houses the spirit and the soul. The body is like a caboose that we live in during our short time on earth, before we permanently shift to our eternal home. Spirit is the breath of life. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (Genesis 2:7). God spoke, and the trees, shrubs, flowering plants, creeping, crawling and slithering animals came to life. However, God did not speak life into the clay-mannequin of Adam. He breathed into his nostrils. So, life is nothing but the breath of God. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7). Once the life or the breath of God leaves our body, the body becomes useless and starts to decay. The middleman, ‘the soul’ or ‘our personality’ lives forever. The soul is made up of three main components – our emotions that express feelings, intellect that helps us to think logically and our will which is the seat of decision making. It is our soul that would stand before God on the judgment day. The soul never dies.
Know yourself:
1. Breath: The first thing to remember is that every breath is a gift from God. It is the breath of God that we breathe every day. Hence no one had the right to decide when they should stop breathing. No governmental body has the right to legalize euthanasia (painless killing of patients suffering from incurable disease). No one has the right to take their own life as the life-giving-breath belongs to God. We don’t belong to ourselves. We are God’s choicest creations who breathed His breath.
2. Breed: The behaviour of dogs are determined by their breed but it is not so with humans. We are all alike on the inside. It is our choices that mold our character. Every new born baby starts with a clean slate. What we write on the soul will direct our path and shape our personality. You and I are God’s breed.
3. Best: We are the best of the best of God’s creation. God abhors prejudice, classism and racism. No matter who rejects us, we are accepted by God. We are the best of God’s creation.
You and I are precious to the Lord.
