10 January 2022 – Confidence – Part 3

Daniel 6:23  The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

Those who trust in the Lord can be afflicted but cannot be inflicted. The joy and peace of those who are girded with God-confidence cannot be altered by a shocking crucible circumstance. They will not go through their affliction lamenting or wailing but with serenity and confidence that God will carry them through the dark valley to the bright mountain top. Daniel the exile from Israel was waiting for another promotion in Babylon. Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom (Daniel 6:3). The local Assyrians and Medes could not tolerate a foreigner to be elevated as their boss. Hence they plotted a wicked plan against Daniel and made the king write a decree against all those who worship their gods/God for 30 days to be thrown into the lion’s den.

God did not come through when the decree was written against Daniel. He did not strike the envious colleagues of Daniel or the King who wrote the decree with a wasting disease.  It appeared as if God was oblivious to what was happening to His devoted disciple Daniel in Babylon. God was not to be found when they bound and dragged him to the lion’s den. Lightning did not strike the envious offenders as they threw him into the den with a dozen hungry lions. But, the Lord God walked into the den even before Daniel was flung in. Daniel did not complain, he did not doubt nor question God. He was calm, composed and confident in the goodness of God.

Godly-confidence overrules chaos with calmness:

1.     Overlook: Daniel held on to his testimony throughout the crisis. As the most unexpected unfolded in his life, Daniel kept his cool. He did not question if God was blinded to the injustice that he was going through. God has not overlooked your problem; remember God walks into the fire, the storm and the den before we do.

2.     Overrun: Daniel’s did not allow the circumstance to overrun his conduct. He was fully aware of the king’s verdict yet he opened the windows of his house and prayed. He could have prayed with his windows closed for 30 days but he didn’t. Those who are confident in the Lord will not allow worldly threats to change their character and conduct. Godly disciplines should never be changed to avoid mockery and God-confident cannot be overrun by worldly threats.

Overturn: Daniel’s confidence in the Lord overturned the plots of the evil doers. At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones (Daniel 6:23). Godly-confidence overturns envious ploys.

God-confidence overturns turmoil into tranquility.

Daniel 3:28b They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.

Prayer:  Father God, thank you for walking into the den and the dark valley before me to protect and preserve me through the dangerous dungeon. Amen
