07 February 2023 – Quit Quitting – Part 3

Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.

“Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine” – Jacky Ma.

Joshua and his fighting men fought a fierce battle against five Amorites kings—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon. Joshua not only won the battle, five against one but he obliterated them. He commanded the sun and the moon to stand still until he completely destroyed them. Joshua and his soldiers had not slept all night (vs 7). The sun stood still in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting for almost a whole day. Hence the 24 hour day became 48 hours. They fought non-stop without a tea break for about 2 full days! The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, so Joshua and the Israelites defeated them completely at Gibeon. Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon (Vs 10). Though this battle was fought in the natural it was fought with supernatural strength. Joshua did not stop fighting as soon as he subdued them. He pursued until the enemies were annihilated. If not, the enemy would have escaped, recouped and come back with more force.

Joshua teaches us a very important lesson not to leave our battles half done. We have no half-time or tea breaks during a spiritual battle. We cannot take a break from reading the Bible or travailing in prayer. Our holidays are rest-breaks from work but not from our prayer routine. Family prayer is like a hedge around our homes. Personal prayer builds a fire wall around our lives and Bible reading is the sap that keeps our inner-man strong and sturdy. Don’t stop praying when the problem quietens. Fight on your knees until the demon is exterminated.

Don’t quit, fight until the enemy is destroyed:

1. Fatigue: Spiritual fatigue kills enthusiasm. If we feel weak and fatigued spiritually we must go on a planned fast. Spiritual fatigue is when we don’t feel like praying or reading the Bible. This is when the enemy intrudes to steal, kill and destroy. When we lose the flare and fire in prayer it is a sign to start fasting again. The fatigued soldiers did not quit fighting until they destroyed their enemies. Fast if fatigued spiritually.

2. Fickle: Don’t take the enemy lightly. We need not over emphasize on spiritual attack but should not be fickle. The devil has power but we have authority to subdue the enemy. We must use our authority. The spiritually fickle will be naïve of spiritual attacks. Be alert.

3. Foresee: Don’t wait for an attack. Ask the Lord to open your spiritual eyes to foresee the plots of the evil one and sabotage it. We must be always equipped spiritually to fight back. Foresee and forage.

“Never give up until the enemy is destroyed.”

Joshua 10:14b Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

Prayer: Father God help me to be alert when I am spiritually fatigued to fast, pray and fight back the intruders. Amen
