09 February 2023 – Quit Quitting – Part 5

Exodus 2:15a When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian.

Don’t quit sailing towards your dream. When/if the sails break, swim to your destiny. Moses had a noble calling. By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict (Hebrews 11:23). Moses did not have any Hebrew friends who were of his age when he grew up. All the boy babies born during the birth of Moses were ruthlessly thrown into the River Nile at the verdict of the Pharaoh. His sibling Aaron was three years older than him which means the treacherous ordeal was going on for at least for 2 to 3 years. The Bible does not say when the decree of the Pharaoh to kill the Hebrew babies was annulled but Bible scholars believe that he must have repealed the verdict after Moses was adopted by the Pharaoh’s daughter.

Moses, the miracle-baby of the Hebrew slaves grew up as an Egyptian. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action (Acts 7:22). Moses was educated, eloquent and was equipped to be the next ruler of Egypt. However, the heart of Moses moved with compassion when he witnessed his brothers and sisters tortured by the Egyptians. His family and friends might have hoped that Moses would rise up in power and ease the yoke of slavery. But God’s plan was not to set them free from oppression and to live as second class Egyptian citizens but to release them from Egypt and give them a land of their own. Moses jumped the guns, took law into his own hands, killed an Egyptian and fled to the wilderness. Moses quit from his calling as his own actions disappointed and discombobulated him.

Don’t quit from your destiny:

1. Warrior: The reaction of the Pharaoh to his rash action made Moses flee from Egypt. The Hebrew brother of Moses said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” (Exodus 2:14). The violent warrior became a timid shepherd in the wilderness. The actions or reactions of people should not change our destiny. Don’t let people or problems turn the direction of your calling or career.

2. Worshipper: Moses had forgotten to worship. He was nursed by his birth-mother who would have revealed that he was a Hebrew adopted into the royal family of the Pharaoh. The first thing the Lord did was to put worship back into his shepherding schedule when He met him at the burning bush. God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5). Worship lifts our spirit when we feel like quitting.

3. Writer: The harmonious view of biblical scholars was that Moses wrote these first five books (Torah) of the Bible. God gave him education in Egypt to write the Torah, not to hide in the backside of the wilderness. Don’t let rejection stop you from pursuing your talents and skills.

“Don’t give up on your destiny”.

Exodus 2:10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, give me the tenacity to press forward even when I face opposition to accomplish your purpose in my life. Amen
