17 March 2023 – The Fear of the Lord – Part 6

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Wisdom is application of knowledge. Wisdom converts head knowledge into words and deeds. Being directed by the reverential fear of God will help us make wise decisions and speak words of wisdom. Even casual conversation will be power packed with wisdom and deep insights. God appeared to King Solomon in a dream and said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon answered, give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong (1 Kings 3:8a -9). Solomon did not ask for fame, fortune, or frontiers of other kingdoms. He asked for wisdom and a discerning heart! Solomon knew that wisdom will be followed by wealth, victories, and reputation. The Lord God blessed him with measureless wisdom and matchless understanding. People from various nations flocked to listen to him. Riches and resources from other nations poured in.

The reverential fear of God will transform head knowledge into practical applications. Fear of God will put a bridle in our mouth. When we want to be sarcastic or silly, wisdom in our heart will remind us Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21). ‘Wisdom is doing now what you are going to be happy with later on’—Joyce Meyer. Wisdom will say and sow now what it wants to reap in the future.

Fear of God makes us wise:

1.     Fame: Wisdom will earn a reputation that wealth can never buy. Queen of Sheba came from Ethiopia to see and hear Solomon’s wisdom for herself. The fame of Solomon spread far and wide without CNN, BBC or Fox News. She said, Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard (1 Kings 10:7b). Fame chases the wise.

2.     Fortune: Wisdom and wealth co-exist. And she gave the king 120 talents of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon (1 Kings 10:10). Wisdom builds the foundation on solid grounds. Wealth chases the wise.

3.     Frontier: Wisdom that is built on reverential fear will break the frontier of ethnicity, language or status. Wisdom will take us boldly into the enemy’s territory and bring us out triumphantly with spoils. Wisdom will reveal the schemes of the devil and defeat the strategies of the diabolical forces. We can never recover what the enemy had stolen from us without reverential fear of God and divine wisdom.

The fear of God is only the beginning of wisdom. Divine wisdom will increase in proportion to the reverential fear of God.

Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility.

Prayer: Father God, I submit my views, analysis and parenthesis to your divine wisdom. Guide me and teach me. Amen
