27 May 2023 – Delight in the Lord – Part 7

Matthew 17:5 While He was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

The Father testified about the son, with Him I am well pleased. The Father delighted in everything that the Son did. Jesus was the perfect epitome for us to follow and delight the heart of God. “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish His work (John 4:34). Doing the ‘Father’s will’ became the food that energized Jesus. However, our biggest struggle most times is to understand the will of the Father.

“How do we discern the will of God”? Is the most frequently asked question to preachers. Understanding the will of God is very simple. The Bible is the written will of God. As we follow His written Word as the mandate to make decisions and take directions we cannot miss the will of God. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:6). Have a live conversation with heaven throughout the day. Keep checking with the transmission of heaven to confirm your trajectory. If we miss the mark or take a wrong turn, we will lose our peace. If your heart gets troubled, then God is trying to get your attention to redirect you. So stop, surrender and synchronize.

God delights in those who do His will:

1.     Stop: Take frequent stops during the day to adjust your frequency with heaven. If people or problems disturb the serenity of your soul, Stop and Listen. Jesus could never be intimidated, flattered or deluded by people. “Knowing their thoughts, He said to them…” (Matthew 12:25). Jesus was able to see the thoughts behind the words as He had a continuous and close communication with the Father. If we stop frequently to readjust to the frequency with Heaven, we can never miss the will of God.

2.     Surrender: Surrender is not defeat but an act of obedience. I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). Sacrifice means to yield without reservations. Sacrifice means to give up our wish list and surrender to God’s Word even if it is difficult to submit. Unforgiveness, self-pity and bitterness could be stubborn sins that stop us from hearing and accomplishing God’s will.

3.     Synchronize: The simple instruction that the Father gave the world was, Listen to him! Listen, don’t hear and let the instructions fall on deaf ears. Listeners have an intention to execute. Shaking our heads in a sermon does not harmonize us with the plan of God but determination to follow through will synchronize us with the will of God.

A wholehearted commitment to do the will of God delights the heart of God.

Zephaniah 3:17 For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears.

Prayer: Father God, doing your will is my desire. Give me the awareness to adjust my frequency to heaven’s frequency. Amen.
