02 July 2023 – The Secret of Secrecy – Part 1

Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

‘God can’t keep a secret. Our secret prayer, fasting and giving will be rewarded openly.’

God cannot keep our tears, prayers and petitions in our prayer closet as a secret. God will see our persistent, pertinent and persuasive prayers in the secret place and reward us openly. He never ignores a broken heart and earnest petition. He never disregards sincere faith-filled prayers. However, prayer is not a onetime ‘rubicon moment’ when you are on the mountain top petitioning. Prayer is a regular routine. We can pray throughout the day. We can pray when we walk, work or drive but God takes a special note of us when we prioritize spending time with Him in prayer at a set time in a prayer corner.

No one will watch over your personal prayer routine. We don’t get a badge of honour as ‘prayer warriors’ for setting our ‘daily prayer routine’. But it is our ceaseless prayer in secret that will bring lasting rewards. Our prayers in private will be rewarded publicly.  Heaven looks at our prayer life very differently. It is not hours and hours of repetition but sincere prayers to honour King Jesus attracts the attention of heaven. Prayers out of desperation will be heard but prayer of devotion will be rewarded. Prayer should not just be a cry for help but must be a communion with the Heavenly Father.

Private prayers will be rewarded publicly:

1.     Schedule: Our prayer time must be prioritized as number 1 above all other important assignments of the day. We must be able to say like Martin Luther, “I am so busy now that if I did not spend three hours each day in prayer, I could not get through the day.” Plan your calendar for the day and prioritize prayer above everything else. Schedule a prayer-plan, set a time and place for prayer before you start your day.

2.     Sincere: Man looks at the passion but God looks at the intention. Men can be carried away by the flamboyance but God looks at the reverence. Man looks at the succulence but God looks at the sincerity of the heart.

3.     Secret: God cannot keep a secret. Daily, relentless and methodical prayer is like breaking the ground, ploughing, seeding and watering. We don’t see fruits as soon as we sow the seeds. Persistent, sincere and persuasive prayer in the secret place will be rewarded.

There will be no anointing in the pulpit if there is no prayer in the private secret closet. Power on the platform is ignited by prayers in private. God will notice our sacrifice, sincerity and prayer schedule in our private prayer closet.

1 John 5:14–15 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Prayer: Father God, give me the persistence to prioritize prayer above my busy schedule every day. Amen.
