02 August 2023 – Voices– Part 4

1 Samuel 3:6-7 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.

The Lord God called Samuel three times, and all three times Samuel ran to his caretaker grandpa Eli. The third time, Eli realized that it was God calling Samuel and told him, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening’” (1 Samuel 3:9). Samuel had not heard the voice of God before, so he was not able to recognize or distinguish the voice of God from the voice of Eli.

The voice of the Lord is only familiar to those who know Him. If we are not familiar with God’s voice His voice will sound like our closest kin, best buddy or our good conscience. We hear people saying that ‘luck’ saved them from making a wrong decision or a wrong turn. There are no chances or sweet coincidences in the life of a child of God. There are only God-ordained incidences that are orchestrated by the Lord God Himself. The LORD directs the steps of the godly (Psalm 37:23). To hear His voice and walk in His guidance we must become familiar with the voice of God.

Research done by Yale University says, “Since the maternal voice is audible in utero, an infant starts to recognize their mother’s voice from the third trimester”. By the time a baby is born, they will be very familiar with the voice of the mother. They will become familiar with the father’s voice within a week of their birth. Hence it is important to talk to the baby in the womb. Likewise, conversing with the Lord will tune our spiritual ears to hear His voice.

Familiarize with God’s voice:

1.     Security: One word from God gives us security and safety. All fear and anxiety will dissipate when we have constant communication with the Saviour. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track (Proverbs 3:6 MSG). As we make an effort to hear Him, His voice and words will become our fortress and refuge.

2.     Surety: God’s voice will give us the confidence and courage that He will accomplish what He has promised. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). Repeat Isaiah 41:10 like a therapy every time fear grips your heart, and you will be inundated with supernatural boldness.

3.     Serenity: God’s voice gives us absolute peace and serenity. One Word from God will level mountains and melt icy cold glaciers.

Familiarize yourselves with the voice of God. His voice will become the substratum of our soul.

Psalm 147:18 He sends his word and melts them; He stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, please help me to familiarize with your voice and be led and guided by your voice. Amen.
