30 August 2023 – Eyes – Part 4

2 Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Archeologists have discovered ancient Dothan as a fertile tectonic valley about 15 miles south of Tel Aviv. It was approximately 50 acres and had about 6,000 to 8,000 people. The prophet Elisha was stationed in Dothan. The prophet’s spiritual eyes were enlightened to all that happened in the enemy’s camp. Even the secret discussions of the King of Aram and his schemes to invade Israel were audible to the spiritual ears of Elisha The advancement of the enemy was visible to Elisha on a mega screen from his little shack in Dothan. “Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom” (vs 12). While physical eyes have limitations of what it can see, our enlightened spiritual eyes have no limits or bounds. Spiritual eyes can see beyond territorial boundaries into the spiritual realm. We can see what is happening or going to happen on the other side of the world and warn people. We can see what is going to happen in the years to come and make prophetic proclamations. We can also see the angelic protection around us and feel the manifest presence of our God when our spiritual eyes are opened.

Physical eyes take in light from the world around us, and send visual information to our brain to form images; but the spiritual eyes take the light from the heart to visualize the world around us.

Our vision will completely change when our spiritual eyes are opened. When everyone foresees famine ahead of them, we will see a flourishing future. Enlightened spiritual eyes will be able to see the power of God overtaking the enemy. Enlightened spiritual eyes can never be threatened, tricked or taken for a ride. As soon as the Prophet prayed, “Lord open the eyes of my servant” the spiritual eyes of the servant was opened and he saw the mighty innumerous angelic army on the hills around the valley of Dothan. The army of the Lord outnumbered the soldiers of Aram.

Enlightened Eyes:

1.     Fear: Enlightened eyes do not see the threats but triumph. We will get excited when we hear intimidating warnings of economic recession or about a crisis. God waits for depression to command progression for God’s chosen generation. It was in famine that Isaac became a thriving businessman.

2.     Foreboding: Enlightened eyes will drive out all evil forebodings and qualms. The joy in our heart can never be stolen by the crisis or challenge. When others frown in foreboding, we will smile with confidence.

3.     Foray: Enlightened eyes are not intimidated by the foray or spiritual attacks. There are more with us than those who attack us.

Enlightened eyes see triumph, while others shudder at a discouraging forecast, threatening report, or debilitating disease.

2 Kings 6:16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

Prayer: Almighty Father, enlighten my eyes so that I may never shake in fear or sulk in foreboding by the foray of the enemy. Amen.
