04 October 2023 – Favour of God – Part 4

Genesis 39:4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.

The favour of God will take us to the right place, at the right time and give us the right direction. Many times we will realize the opportunities that favour had opened only in hindsight. A retrospective reflection of the past will accentuate the power of God’s favour and the divine intervention to promote and progress us through life.

Favour of God is the unmerited grace of God. His favour qualifies the disqualified for blessings, power, positions, responsibilities and ministry that they don’t deserve.

Joseph made a powerful statement reminiscing about the flood of favour that carried him from the cistern to the citadel of the Pharaoh. You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people (Genesis 50:20). Looking back at his life and the way the Lord orchestrated his entry and exaltation in Egypt, Joseph says to his brothers that God turned the bad, ugly and horrifying incidents of his life for good and elevated him to a position of influence to save the world. The shut doors, hurts, betrayals, usury, lost opportunities, rejections, the gut-wrenching treachery will work together for our good. Don’t allow pain to make you pitiful. The favour of God will turn the suffering into steps of success and pain into power.

Joseph went through a rollercoaster before he got to the place of honour. Joseph’s righteousness inundated him with the favour of God that positioned him at the right place at the right time and in the right direction.

Favour positions us in the right place, right time and right direction:

1.     Faithful: The sedition of Joseph’s brothers and the suffering he went through did not make him bitter. It made him better. Joseph remained faithful wherever he was and the favour of God increased in leaps and bounds in his life. He was faithful to his master Potiphar and he was faithful in the prison and the Lord God showered favour on him and raised him to authority. Faithfulness increases favour.

2.     Fervor: The temptation to infidelity made Joseph feverous not frivolous. He boldly refuted the invitation to immorality and said, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9b). Fervor for God multiplies favour.

3.     Fruitful: Favour of God took Joseph to a position that made him fruitful and prolific. Joseph was instrumental in making Egypt the superpower of that time.  So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every Egyptian sold his field because the famine was severe upon them (Genesis 47:20). Favour of God will not only bless the faithful but will make them a blessing.

Faithfulness and fervor floods us with the favour of God and makes us extremely fruitful.

Genesis 41:39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.

Prayer: Father God, mould my heart to be faithful and fervorous for You. It is only your favour that will make me fruitful. Amen.
