05 October 2023 – Favour of God – Part 5

Exodus 20:6 But showing favour to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

The favour of God is the most valuable wealth we can accumulate for our generation. The favour of God brings gifts, talents and skills to distinguish God’s children. But you are a special people (1 Peter 2:9a). And favour is passed on from one generation to another. Asaph was the chief of the Levites and one of the three worship leaders appointed by King David. And he appointed certain of the Levites…to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: Asaph was the chief (1Chronicles 16:4-5a). We see that the favour of God’s ‘worship anointing’ rested upon his family from generation to generation. About 535 years later, when the remnant of Israel returned from captivity under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah, the great-grandson carried the gift of his great-granddad. Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the director who led in thanksgiving and prayer (Nehemiah 11:17a). The 12 Psalms (Psalm 73–83) are identified as the Psalms of Asaph.

Favour of God is the unmerited grace and mercy of God. His favour qualifies the disqualified for blessings, power, positions, responsibilities and ministry that they don’t deserve.

The favour of God lavishes those who fear Him with niche and special skills, talents and gifts. A man’s gift makes room for him And leads him into the presence of great men (Proverbs 18:16). David played his harp in the middle of nowhere while tending his sheep. The biggest concert crowd he would have ever had was his sheep, but his gift made room for him. One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player (1 Samuel 16:18a). The gift of strumming the harp took him into the palace.

Favour of God makes you special:

1.     Talent: Favour abounds us with unique gifts and talents. The favour of God multiplied in the generation of David. David was talented in music and military but Solomon was multitalented. God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore (1 Kings 4:29). Solomon was a PhD in biology, zoology, geography, astrology, astronomy, and archeology and there was no one as wise as Solomon. Leave loads of God’s favour for your generation.

2.     Treasure: Favour of God is an intangible treasure that passes on from one generation to another. But the LORD did not want to destroy Judah, for he had promised his servant David that his descendants would continue to rule, shining like a lamp forever (2 Kings 8:19). ‘The Favour of God’, is the treasure that neither moth will consume, nor the termites chew-up for decades and centuries.

3.     Tribute: All the enemy nations brought tribute to David and Solomon as the favour of God was upon David. Compliment, honour and respect will come looking for those who are shrouded with the favour of God.

The favour of God blesses us with distinguishable gifts, talents and skills.

Luke 1:50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, Help me to walk fearfully before you and live under the shadow of your favour. Amen.
