18 October 2023 – Open Doors – Part 4

2 Samuel 12:10 ‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

Known sins and hidden transgressions leave a wide open door for the enemy to attack us. David hid his sin with Bathsheba for almost a year. His plot to kill her husband Uriah was executed meticulously without a blemish on the King and the child conceived out of wedlock was born. The king married Bathsheba and covered the iniquity, but just as he sat back in relief the Lord sent Prophet Nathan to reprimand him. The vice turned into a curse in the nine to twelve months while David hid the sin. As a consequence of the sin there was adultery, deception and early death in his family. His eldest son Amnon committed incest with his half-sister Tamar (Absalom’s sister).  His son Absalom took revenge on Amnon and killed him. Absalom deceived the King and the people and tried to usurp the kingdom. Absalom also committed an act of adultery that was repugnant (2 Samuel 13:13-37). Hidden sins lay eggs of wickedness that turn into curse.

However, David lamented, confessed and repented for his sins. He prayed like a little child, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). The Lord forgave his sins though he paid a price as a consequence. “The Lord has taken away your sin…but the son born to you will die” (Vs 13-14). The blood of goats and bulls could only forgive his sins but could not blot out the cruelty of the curses. The blood and the burnt sacrifice of animals in the Old Testament only rendered “forgiveness” but the holy and unblemished blood of Jesus redeems us from the curses and consequences of sins, transgressions and iniquities. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace (Ephesians 1:7). Forgiveness is being pardoned but redemption is being restored back to the same position before we sinned. The blood of Jesus redeems a prostitute and reinstates her to the original place of a virgin before she was tarnished by sin – ‘just as if she had never sinned’.

Shut the door to the enemy by bringing the hidden sin to light:

1.     Repent: Repentance is the first step to redemption through the blood of Jesus.  The blood of Jesus not only cleanses us from all sin but justifies us and reinstates us to the place of authority and rulership.

2.     Reverse: The blood of Jesus unlike the blood of animals reverses the curses. Our generations will not be battered by the curses when the iniquity is recognized, renounced and reversed. Fasting and prayer will reverse the heavy lumber of curses.

3.     Redeem: The blood not only sets us free but brings us home to the bosom of the Father.

Repent, renounce, reverse and be redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

Matthew 26:28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Prayer: King Jesus, thank you for your precious blood that not only forgives but also redeems me from the cruelty of curses. Amen.
