08 November 2023 – Eagle’s Eye – Part 4

1 Samuel 16:7 For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”

An “Eagle Eye” means a person who is watchful and careful to notice even the very small details and the minute specks.

The Eagle Eyes of the Lord will notice what the prophets, parents or pastors will not be able to see. “Others may see us skin deep, but God sees us for who we are! God sees us as a beautiful rare gem that is one-of-a-kind”. Man sees the status, stature and superfluous outward grandeur but God sees the simplicity and the sincerity of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13). God does not see the way man sees. The Lord God saw ‘the Greatest King of Israel’ in the ruddy and dirty shepherd boy, David.

David’s father, Jesse, had disqualified David from being anointed as the next king so he did not bring him from the wilderness where he was watching over his flock. His father could not see him much more than a keeper of his flock. So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” (1 Samuel 16:11). His brothers saw him as an annoying immature brat but God saw the kingly priestly anointing in David. The Lord God heard the songs that David sang from the middle of nowhere. The Lord was pleased with the psalms that David wrote in the wilderness and was enthralled by his worship in the wilds. The Lord God took note of his songs, sincerity and simplicity in the secret place and honoured him publicly.

The Lord’s Eagle’s Eyes:

1.     Songs: Bible scholars believe that about 73 (if not more) of the 150 Psalms were written by David. Most of the psalms were written and sung from the depths of his soul in crucible circumstances. God hears our songs and sees our suffering in secret.

2.     Sincerity: Man is attracted by the flamboyance but God’s Eagle’s eyes see the faithfulness of our heart. The Lord gave a testimony about the sincerity of David, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will’ (Acts 13:22).  God’s eyes can discern the spurious and the sincere.

3.     Simplicity: Humility and simplicity attract God’s favour. David did not allow his power, position or popularity to erode his simplicity. King David honoured the King of Kings when he danced before the Ark of the Lord. And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment (2 Samuel 6:14). God sees the simple and the humble.

The Eagle Eyes of the Lord will notice the sincerity and simplicity of our hearts.  Songs of praise and worship in secret will be honoured publicly.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Prayer: King of Kings, Your eyes can see the depth of my soul, my secret songs, sincerity and simplicity. I will bow down before you and worship you with all my heart. Amen.
