19 December 2023 – Talking Book – Part 3

Luke 4:20 And He(Jesus) rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all the people in the synagogue were intently directed at Him.

Jesus is the Word of God. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). When the Word (Jesus) read the Word (The Book of Law), the congregation was spellbound. There were many well-educated and trained scholars in the synagogue. They dedicated their life to read, memorize, study and interpret the scriptures. But when Jesus took the scroll every word that came out of His mouth enthralled the hearts of the listeners. Their eyes were fixed on Him and they were stunned at the authority with which He spoke. We can experience the same enlightenment even today when we read the scriptures if we invite the author to read and interpret His Word to us.

Invite the Holy Spirit to be your personal tutor of the “Talking Book”. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you (John 14:26). Never start reading the Bible without the help of the Holy Spirit. He is the only one who can teach us the hidden treasures in the precious Talking Book – The Bible. We will know and understand things that the human brain can never comprehend. The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple (Psalm 19:7). Before you open the Bible, welcome, invite and engage the author of the Talking Book to impart wisdom and the righteous way of life.

If we struggle concentrating while reading God’s Word, then, we are not turned-in with the author of the Talking Book who is ready to tutor, teach and coach us. Sit, synchronize and siphon from the Holy Spirit.

Engage with the author of the Talking Book:

1.     Illuminates: The eyes of the people in the synagogue were fastened on Jesus as His Word touched and illuminated their hearts. Inviting the author, the Holy Spirit, to read and interpret the Bible will illuminate our darkened hearts.

2.     Intrigues: The author, the Holy Spirit will fascinate us with intriguing questions and interpretations. Bible reading will be interesting, engaging and interactive when the Holy Spirit is our personal tutor. Throw your questions in the air and wait for ‘The Talking Book’ to talk back to you.

3.     Imparts: The Holy Spirit imparts wisdom, knowledge and understanding. It will not just be head knowledge but divine revelation. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught (Isaiah 50:4b). He imparts wisdom into our hearts.

The Bible is the living audible talking book that talks to us even today. Let the author, the Holy Spirit, be our personal tutor every day.

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, I invite you to talk to me as I read your Word. Illuminate my heart with your truth, answer my questions and impart wisdom in me. Amen.
