22 December 2023 – Talking Book – Part 6

Luke 24:44-45 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

The Talking Book has been talking about the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Messiah for the past 6,000 years. Moses spoke about Jesus (Deuteronomy 18:15 & Acts 3:22); David prophesied about the Messiah in the Psalms (Psalm 110:1 & Psalm 22:16-17) and Jesus fulfilled about 324 individual prophecies recorded in since the beginning of time. The disciples of Jesus came from menial backgrounds; there were fishermen, a tax collector, a zealot (revolutionary trying to overthrow the Roman government) and of course a thief (Judas the Iscariot). They were unschooled illiterates except Matthew who might have had some basic education. While the Pharisees had theological degrees and PhDs in the Torah, they could not see the prophecies being fulfilled but Jesus opened the minds of the uneducated disciples to understand the scriptures.

Unlike other books, intellect cannot explain the scriptures to us, only the Author can. We can never read, comprehend and interpret the Bible without engaging with the Author. It is an audio book where we will hear the Author expounding and interpreting the revelations to us every time we read the Bible. We can have a live conversation with Jesus when we read the Bible. Those who have just head knowledge are not conversing with the Author. Those who hear the Author in their heart while reading the Word, turn the black and white printed pages into a “Talking Audio Book”.

Reading and listening at the same time retains information for a long time. Reading the scriptures and listening to the revelation of the Author will elucidate the scriptures and enlighten our minds.

The Author enlightens our understanding:

1.     Elucidate: While the learned members of the Sanhedrin could not interpret the prophecies or recognize the Messiah Jesus, the mind of the unlearned disciples were opened as they engaged and conversed with the Author of the book. The Author will elucidate and interpret the scriptures as we engage with Him.

2.     Enlighten: The Bible enlightens us every day. The same passage will speak to us afresh every time we read it as the author is alive and His word is active.

3.     Elicit/Extract: The scriptures and the interpretations are stored as a file in our heart and the Holy Spirit will bring it to our memory as and when we need it. I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Listening to the exposition of the Holy Spirit will elicit the sap from the Bible.

The Bible is the living and talking audio book that talks to us even today. The Holy Spirit will explain what our intellect cannot interpret.

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, as you opened the minds of the disciples, open my mind to understand your Word as I read the Talking Book. Amen.
