31 December 2023 – The End

Luke 24:49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

“Every end is a new beginning so embrace it and keep moving forward”.

The end of the year can just be like any other day and the dawn of the New Year will make no sense if we don’t reinvigorate ourselves with new goals, visions and aspirations. It is important to grow no matter where we are in life. The person who has stopped dreaming and growing is already dead. They would only be using the resources of the world and wasting their lives if they have no purpose for existence. The term ‘retire’ from a secular job means to channel our time to more purposeful use. Never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.

Jesus appeared to His disciples for about 40 days. Jesus finally appeared to as many as 500 of His followers at one time (1 Corinthians 15:6).  The last commandment He gave to His disciples was to wait for the Holy Spirit. It was the end of an era (of Jesus on earth) and the beginning of the New Era (of the Holy Spirit indwelling in us). However, they had to wait for the New Beginning for about 10 days. Of the 500 followers only 120 obeyed the last command of Jesus. “Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind,” and “divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them” (Acts 2:2-3).  Those who did not wait missed the fire anointing but the 120 who waited received a brand new start. Hence it is important to revisit the year 2023; thank God for the answered prayers, the delays and even the shut doors. And it is also important to refresh our memory of broken commitments and reset good habits. Wait on the Lord to revisit, reset and refresh.

Every end is a new beginning:

1.     Reset: It is important to revisit and reset our lives. Revisit the past success and mistakes and reset your goals and visions. We will never be able to understand God’s plan for 2024 without waiting at His feet. Jesus said, tarry in Jerusalem until you are filled with power. Fast, pray and wait at God’s feet until He speaks a promise to you for 2024.

2.     Reinvigorate: Reinvigorate the dreams that are dead. Delay does not mean denial. Ambitions that were forgotten must be revived. Set yourself a higher standard than the previous year.

3.     Rejuvenate: Renew your covenant with the Lord. Revitalize yourself by having a regular daily devotional time with the Lord. Make a commitment to learn, grow and give.  Get into a covenantal commitment with God about your vision for 2024.

Any change needs preparation and waiting in God’s presence will prepare us for 2024.

Jude 24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, thank you for your presence, provision and providence for 2023. Prepare us for 2024 to be a year of fruitfulness. Amen.
