10 February 2024 – Hallowed – Part 6

Matthew 6:9 “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”.

Names are incredibly important to accentuate the identity of people. Names of Jehovah are windows through which His character can be seen and experienced. When we hail the names of God our Saviour and Redeemer we draw His attention and when we hallow His name we enter into the fortress of His refuge.

After an astounding victory over the vicious enemy, the Amalekites, Moses built an altar and named it “Jehovah-Nissi” which means ‘The Lord Is My Banner’. And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-Nissi (Exodus 17:15). Banner is a poster, a placard or a strip of cloth with a slogan or a symbol that demonstrates a message or a memorial. Amalekites were an ancient nomadic brutal tribe who relentlessly attacked Israel. They assaulted Israel over and over again – unprovoked. They are archetypal anti-Semitic opponents (including Hamas) of the current day Jews. Hence the Lord recorded a verdict against them in writing. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.” (Exodus 17:14).

We cannot fight the lethal diabolical forces with our strength. Jehovah Nissi is the Banner of Victory in our daily battles and fierce wars. When we smell, hear or feel the evil foreboding wind of the enemy coming against us, hallow the name of Jehovah-Nissi. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19b). The Aramaic Bible says when the enemy gushes like a river The Spirit of LORD JEHOVAH will humiliate him!

Moses and Joshua fought the narcissistic Amalekites race with a bunch of untrained, unskilled and ill-equipped men who were slaves for over four centuries but it was the Jehovah-Nissi who fought for them and overthrew the enemy. While Joshua was fighting in the valley, Moses had his hands raised towards heaven hallowing and hailing the name of Jehovah-Nissi.

Jehovah-Nissi – “The Lord Is My Banner”:

1.     Hail: Hail is to greet or welcome someone. Hail the name of Jehovah-Nissi before you start your day. Welcome the God of Victory over your daily routines, meetings, presentations, challenges and endeavors. Hail Jehovah-Nissi.

2.     Hoist: To hoist is to lift or rise. Hoist the name of Jehovah-Nissi. The flag or a cloth banner will fly and stretch only when there is strong wind. Only when the enemy comes like a rushing steam and fierce force, the wind of the Lord will stretch the banner of victory and humiliate him.  The brutal attacks of the demonic will cause the wind of the Holy Spirit, the breadth of God, to blow through us to annihilate the enemy as we hallow Jehovah-Nissi.

3.     Hallow: Hallow, worship and revere the name of the Lord of Victories – Jehovah-Nissi.

Hallow Jehovah-Nissi. ‘The Lord my banner, the Lord my victory’.

Isaiah 63:12 Who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses’ right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown.

Prayer: Jehovah-Nissi, my God my banner of victory, go before me and give me victory over the enemy. Amen.
