John 8:44 You are like your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer form the beginning, not holding the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lied, he speaks his native language for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Metamorphosis (in an insect or amphibian) is the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages. Snakes and reptiles do not have a larval phase and do not go through metamorphosis. When the young are born or hatched, they look like miniature adults. Most reptiles lay shelled eggs on land but a few species of reptiles give live births to their young ones.
John the Baptist addressed the unrepentant religious leaders as brood of vipers that have not experienced spiritual metamorphosis. He was indicating that they were the offspring of the serpent and the sons of satan. They hatch evil like eggs from poisonous snakes. If you eat one of those eggs, you will die, and if you break one open, a poisonous snake comes out. People tell lies as they would spin a spider’s web (Isaiah 59:5). The unrepentant and rebellious minds lay evil eggs and hatch poisonous snakes. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s: the poison of vipers on their lips (Psalm 104:3). Everyone is born with sin hidden in them and unless we go through the process of metamorphosis we will remain to be the offspring of sin and satan. I was brought forth in iniquity and my mother conceived me in sin (Psalm 52:5). Sinful behaviour, anger tantrums, hate speech, backstabbing, deceitfulness are character traits of satan and those who live in wickedness are miniatures of the father of lies – the devil. These are people who have not experienced metamorphosis.

A transformed man will live reformed life. The lifestyle and fruit of the person is the true witness of spiritual metamorphosis.
Spiritual Metamorphosis transforms our mind and mouth:
1. Truth: Spiritual metamorphosis will reform our tongue to speak the truth always. There will be no duplicity, dishonesty or deception hidden in us. We will be who we say we are.
2. Tongue: Spiritual metamorphosis will refine our tongue. The words that we used casually before the spiritual transformation will become abomination to us. We will not only refrain from foul or course conversation but also desist speaking anything that we do not mean.
3. Testimony: Spiritual metamorphosis will change our lifestyle and not just our words. People will know that we have experienced Christ personally even before we open our mouth to testify. When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13).
Spiritual metamorphosis will transform our tongue and our testimony.
1 John 2:4 Whoever says, “I know Him,” but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, touch me and transform my tongue and testimony. May the world see Your truth radiating through me. Amen.
