26 February 2024 – Summer Is Coming – Part 1

Song of Solomon 2:11-12 For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

The yellow heads of daffodils pop up their pretty heads to let us know that spring is here and that summer is coming. Throughout the dark, snowy, gloomy winter months we eagerly await for the warmth of spring and summer. “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease” (Genesis 8:22). The barren trees will start budding and blossoming as the days get warmer and the nights milder. Symbolically and metaphorically we go through different seasons in life. We go through summer, winter, spring and autumn in our spiritual journey. Whatever we are going through is yet another season that will soon pass away. It is a changing temporary season. So, don’t make permanent decisions based on temporary feelings. Summer is coming and the cold winter will soon vanish.

As waiting for the season to change will keep us going through the biting cold winter, “hope” keeps our faith alive through the dark days of desperation. Without hope, faith will only be a façade. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Faith believes that the Lord God is All-Powerful but hope is the substance that fortifies our trust that He will do a miracle for us. As spring blows away the cold winds, incubating in God’s presence warms our faith and bolsters our hope. The half of the earth hemisphere that tilts towards the sun experiences summer. Similarly, those who lean on the Lord Jesus in times of trouble remain faithful and hopeful. The spiritual movement of titling or leaning on the bosom of King Jesus will nurture hope into our despondent heart. Sing through the dark cloudy freezing nights of uncertainties, health challenges or financial catastrophe by leaning on the Saviour.

Summer Is Coming:

1.     Sprout: Spouts, shoots and new growth on barren trees and the wild flowers on the roadside sing a sweet song, “summer is coming”. Praise God for the small and insignificant blessings. Praise builds a bonfire that strengthens the substratum of our soul.

2.     Spring: The warmth of spring melts the snow, likewise songs of praise soften the heart to see the goodness of God. God does not permit challenges to break us but to build us. Praise opens springs of living waters and turns the dry land into a flourishing garden.

3.     Summer: Summer is a time of harvest but if spring does not warm up the land to nurture growth, the harvest will be scarce. Comparing and complaining will dampen our lives but praising will bring the breakthrough for a plenteous harvest.

Praise nurtures faith and protects hope. Sing through the winter that “summer is coming”.

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Prayer: Father God, may my hope never weaken when I face challenges but help me to keep praising and singing that “summer is coming”. Amen.
