14 April 2024 – Worry – Part 7

Exodus 14:15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.

The question that the Lord asked Moses “Why are you crying out to me?” might sound weird. Pharaoh was pursuing the redeemed slaves with six hundred of his best chariots, along with other chariots of Egypt. The Greek Historian, Diodorus Siculus who was known for his notable works “Bibliotheca Historica” mentions that “other chariots” included about 27,000 chariots of Ramses II. However, the Lord gave Moses an insouciant answer, ‘stop worrying and start walking’. Tell the Israelites to move on. In the previous verse Moses pronounced a bold declaration to the petrified people; “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). After which he turned to the Lord, trembling in fear.

Earlier in that chapter we read that the Lord had already informed Moses that He would harden the Pharaoh’s heart and that he will pursue them. The Lord God also told Moses “But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” (Exodus 14:4b). The attack was a surprise to the terrified multitude but not to the Lord or Moses.

Worrying will make us flutter aimlessly. Worrying will push us to become hasty, garrulous and impetuous. Moses said to the people ‘don’t fret, stand firm’, Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today (vs 13). Worry steals the serenity and stillness of the soul.

When baffled with unexpected troubles and turmoil the Lord will respond to us the same way He did to Moses – ‘stop worrying, start walking’. We have over 8,000 promises in the Word of God for the various challenges and crisis we face. His promises are prophecies over our future. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD (Psalm 37:23). So, there is no need to panic or be perturbed by the problem; just proclaim, acclaim and reclaim.

Stop worrying, start walking:

1.         Proclaim: Proclaim the promises not the problem. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them (Mark 23:11). The problem should take us to our prayer closet to receive and proclaim the promise. Proclamation drives out panic.

2.         Acclaim: Praise, don’t panic. God is bigger than the ginormous giant and the insurmountable mountain that is before us. Praise strengthens the foundation of our faith. Crying doesn’t invite the power of God but acclamation and adoration surrounds us with the presence and the power of God.

3.         Reclaim: Worry pushes us away from our destiny but worship will draw us close to the inheritance that God has for us. No power, evil force or brutal demonic authority can snatch God’s blessings from us.

“Be a warrior not a worrier”

Psalm 46:10a “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Prayer: Father Divine, teach me to walk in perfect peace with you at all times and never allow worry to chew on my joy. Amen.
