16 April 2024 – Atomic Prayers – Part 2

Psalm 68:19-20 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.

Praise is the ignition to atomic prayers. The engine of our ‘prayer vehicle’ will not start without praise. We can pray and petition for an hour without praise but we would not have moved an inch. Our prayer wheel does not turn without praise. Praise accelerates our petition into atomic prayers.

“Praise is like the sunlight that helps all things grow” – Croft M. Pentz.

The communion of prayer draws us close to God’s presence but we will remain outside the gate of His tabernacle if we don’t put on the garment of praise. Praise is the spiritual gate that draws us close to the Holy place. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name (Psalm 100:4).

David always found his refuge under the shelter of the Almighty through the wheel of praise. Even in the most desperate and despondent circumstance, he crawled into the arms of the Saviour through the canal of praise. On the other hand, King Saul could not hear the voice of the Lord as he silenced the praise of the priests. He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets (1 Samuel 28:6). King Saul ruthlessly massacred 85 priests, their wives, children, infants, cattle, donkeys and sheep in the priestly town of Nob, because they provided David with food and supplies (1 Samuel 22:6-19).When the worship of the priests was slaughtered the voice of God was silenced. Saul drowned in the peril as he silenced praise. Sin blinded his eyes and muted his tongue.

Praise ignites power to our prayers and worship is the energy that empowers atomic prayers.

Praise is ammunition to atomic prayers:

1.         Pitiful: Prayers of self-pity do not get past the roof of the house. Whining and sulking lamentations are only draining emotions that do not even qualify as prayers. ‘If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God you’ll be at rest’ — Corrie Ten Boom. Praise picks us up from the pitiful ditch of self-pity.

2.         Pragmatic: Practical, sensible and realistic prayers will not lift our faith. Pragmatic prayers will make us settle with reality and not trust in the sovereignty of God. However, praise will move us from the pragmatic-realm into the faith-realm.

3.         Precarious: Prayers that do not begin with praise are on precarious grounds. It is like walking on slippery soil. We can never advance in our prayer journey. We will take one step forward and ten steps backwards if our prayer closet does not overflow with praise, worship and adoration.

Praise is the ignition to our prayers. Praise turns the wheels of prayer into powerful atomic prayers.

Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Prayer: Compassionate Jesus, I will praise you day and night, at dawn and dusk, as the praise in my mouth will keep my mind and my heart confident and calm.  Amen.
