Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow.
A diamond knife is a very sharp knife in which the edge is made from diamond. Diamond knives are used for medical and scientific applications where an extremely sharp and long-lasting edge is essential. Diamond knives are used in eye surgery, specifically in refractive surgery and are very pricey. Refractive surgeries reshape the cornea or implant lens into the eye. The surgeries focus light correctly on the retina to restore clarity in eye sight.
God’s Word, the Bible is the invaluable diamond knife. When we read the Bible, it reads us, our thoughts, intentions and contentions and turns our attention to what is right, holy and pure. God’s Word turns the light on the dark areas of our life and exposes them before the Almighty. It convicts us to repent and return back to Him. When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me (Micah 7:8b). As we read God’s Word, the diamond knife will separate our fears from facts and show us that our faith is weak because we believe the facts more than God’s promises. When we read His Word, the diamond knife will desiccate and unveil the reasons behind our anger, animosity, hatred and violence.
No psychiatrist will be able to decipher our thoughts and intentions as the diamond knife, the Word of God does. “Dusty Bibles always leave to dirty lives” – Jentenzen Franklin. Hence those who fail to cherish God’s Word live carnal lives and neglect the eternal and lasting blessings.
God’s Word is the diamond knife. Disregarding God’s Word is like throwing the diamond back into the dirt.
The Bible is the Diamond Knife:
1. Refocus: The diamond knife, the Bible, refocuses our attention to what is noble, righteous and eternal. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). Unfortunately whatever we treasure on earth would have to be left behind. Those who live with earthy goals will die disappointed but those who are heavenly minded will live a fruitful earthly life and leave back a legacy.
2. Reshape: The diamond knife reshapes the cornea. God’s Word does the same refractive surgery to the soul. The Word of God reshapes our lives.
3. Restores: The diamond knife is used to restore sight by focusing light on the retina (the light sensitive tissues at the back of the eye). Light rays on the retina give us clarity to our vision, so does the Word of God. It throws the light of the truth on any issue and shows us the right perspective.
The Bible is the diamond knife. It must not remain on the dusty shelf but be put to use every day.
Psalm 36:9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light we shall see light.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, let your Word cut, enlighten and energize me like a diamond knife and correct my spiritual vision. Amen
