2 Timothy 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
As we grow in the Lord the kind of battles we face against the enemy, the devil, would become fiercer and we would require an upgrade of the military equipment and artillery to overpower him. ‘Higher level, higher devil’; but higher level also has more angelic protection. We must advance from a pocket gun to AK47s to using nuclear weapons against the demonic. When all hell breaks out we would need the backing of a military tanker to obliterate the advancing diabolical mob.
Our fight is not with flesh and blood and is not visible to the naked eyes. Hence to give the devil and his hellish army a power-punch we need spiritual armory and angelic army. The devil is our only ferocious enemy but he executes his plans through people who yield to his provocations. So our envious colleague, neighbour or relative is not our enemy.
The Old Testament teaches us allegorical principles and the New Testament elucidates practical applications to overthrow the enemy. Joshua and his untrained generation conquered the Promised Land as the Lord of Hosts won battles for them. Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence (Joshua 5:14). The Lord conveyed a profound message that God does not show favoritism but is on the side of the integrous and faithful. He will fight our battles not because we have a tag as “Christians” but because we are obedient to Him.
The Winning Formula to punch the devil on his face:
1. Integrity: Integrity is powerful ammunition to fire against demonic incursion. Our transparency in public and our honesty in our private lives where there are no eyes or cameras watching us will authenticate our integrity. Those who don’t have an integrous private life can never be able to give the devil a power-punch.
2. Intimacy: Intimacy with God is the depth of our relationship with Him. The more we know Him the more we will know the power we have over hell, the devil and his demons. Our closeness with the Lord will make us bold and audacious against the fiendish foray.
3. Insight: Insight into the Word gives us access to the divine artillery. Slice the head of the devil and his demons with the sword of God’s Word. When the demons yell out threats and lies, shout back a promise from God’s Word and silence their voices.
‘Higher level, higher devil’ but integrity, intimacy and insight give us the winning edge over the diabolical hooligans.
Psalm 18:29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I surrender to walk in integrity and faithfulness. Give me the winning edge to punch the devil on his face. Amen.
