28 June 2024 – Indelible Credentials – Part 5

Exodus 2:23-24 Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God. God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Groaning, mourning and wailing from the generation of Abraham who were stuck in Egypt as slaves went up to heaven. When the pleading cry of the people reached heaven, the Book of Remembrance opened to the page of Abraham’s faith, Isaac’s patience and Jacob’s repentance. Obviously, the pages with the names of those who were lamenting for deliverance were blank! However, the Book of Remembrance traced back to the righteousness of the forefathers and the Lord remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The simple faith of Abraham who trusted the Lord for His word like a little child imprinted indelible credentials in heaven that spoke for centuries after his death. “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness” (Romans 4:3). It is still speaking on behalf of Israel even today! The calm response of Isaac wrote volumes in the Book of Remembrance. Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. But the herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours!” (Genesis 26:19-20a). The Philistines picked up quarrel with Isaac but Isaac patiently moved away from them. His patience was recorded in heaven. Jacob had a bad start. He was named ‘crafty’ and he lived a very crooked life but he humbled himself before the Lord and pleaded, “I will not let you go unless you bless me” (Genesis 32:26). His repentance and penance was recorded in the Book of Remembrance.

Our righteousness, repose and repentance have a voice in heaven. The Book of Chronicles speaks on our behalf and will continue to speak for our generation to come.

Indelible Credentials that has a voice in heaven:

1.         Righteousness: Living upright in an upside down world will be a challenge but every move in the right direction makes an inerasable record in heaven.

2.         Repose: A forbearing heart is reposed. It is the fruit of patience that makes us calm and composed. A patient response will bring breakthroughs. Giving the offender a piece of our mind would gratify the flesh but repose will mortify our human nature. A posture of patience and repose will go on the indelible record.

3.         Repentance: Heaven rejoices when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7). God chooses to blot out our messy past when we choose to repent and starts a new page to record our credentials from the day of return.

Walking in purity, patience and penitence imprints indelible credentials on the page with our name in the Book of Remembrance.

Malachi 3:16 Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, guide me to be godly, pure and righteous in all that I do. May my page in the Book of Remembrance be embellished with deeds that make you proud. Amen.
