25 July 2024 – God and Me – Part 4

Matthew 18:26-27 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

Our ‘God and Me’ relationship and our close walk with the Lord settles the debt of sin, transgressions and iniquities irrevocably. Confession, penitence and true repentance cancel the debt of transgressions and annul the consequence of the curses caused by iniquity. The Lord God will choose not to remember, meaning He will never refer back to the “Forgiveness Register” and reopen the past failure. “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12). However, unforgiveness, bitterness, unkindness, uncompassionate and unsympathetic revenge will reactivate the invalidated curse and reinstall the consequences. When the Lord forgives our sins, He puts a seal with His blood which no man or the devil can break but our own ruthlessness-revenge and unforgiveness on our offenders can break the seal of the Forgiveness Register.

In the parable of the ‘Unforgiving Servant’, a servant owed his master about ten thousand bags of gold which would equal to 6,000 days (16 years) of labour. However, this servant whose debt was cancelled went out and grabbed a fellow servant who owed him hundred silver coins which would be equal to 100 days (3.5 months) of wages and threw him in the prison until his debt was paid. The Master was appalled by the unforgiving servant. The cancelled debt of the unforgiving servant was reinstated and gave him over to the torturers. In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed (vs 34).

As long as we remain in the city of refuge and within the fortress of forgiveness the seal over our forgiven sins can never be reopened. The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned (Psalm 34:22).

God and Me relationship keeps us safe in the fortress of forgiveness:

1.         Uncompassionate: Unkind and uncompassionate revenge on those who have harmed us will reopen the can of worms of our own iniquities and curses. The God and Me forgiveness fortress will be busted when we hoard bitterness and animosity in us.

2.         Unrelenting: Unrelenting reaction gives the enemy a foothold. Recalling, repeating and remising the mistakes of your spouse or sibling, friends or foes, will break the seal on our forgiveness register.

3.         Unforgiving: Unforgiving heart that revisits the mistreatment, ill-treatment and abuse caused by others will dig up their own disgusting mess. Unforgiveness is a sin that will destroy us like an incurable cancer.

‘God and Me’ bubble is a fortress of forgiveness where the consequence of the curse cannot hurt us but unforgiveness will burst the bubble and expose us to curses and consequences of our past sins.

Matthew 6:15 But if you do not forgive people, neither will your Father forgive your wrongdoing.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to let go and forgive anyone who has hurt, harmed, defamed and mistreated me and give me persistence to get rid of any animosity or bitterness in my heart. Amen.
