30 July 2024 – The Well – Part 2

Jeremiah 38:6 And they brought Jeremiah and they threw him into the well of Malkiah, son of the King, in the court of the house of prisoners, and they let Jeremiah down by ropes into the well, and there was no water in the well, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud.

The water source or the spring of the well can be gradually blocked by impurities that the water naturally carries. If the well is not cleaned then, the spring might find another way and may not return to the well.

Prophet Jeremiah was thrown into a dry mushy muddy cistern. Jeremiah spoke the truth from the word of God. He told the people that their sin had clogged the springs of Living Waters and their iniquities had shut the favour of heaven. As Jeremiah had prophesied, the city was captured by King Nebuchadnezzar and the king’s sons were killed. Jeremiah was thrown into a dry well which symbolically spoke to the people and the politicians about the current state of affairs of the country. However, God raised Ebed-Melek, an Ethiopian Eunuch, to rescue Jeremiah. Ebed-Melek took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern (vs 11).

A dry well where the waterspouts had dried up could be a frigid marriage relationship where love had dried up or a career where favour is missing or a health condition that is like sinking sand. When the enemy shovels us into a dry well to keep us stuck from moving forward, the Lord will lift us up from the dry dark well.

Are you in a dry well?

1.         Rope: The Lord raised a king’s official to rescue Jeremiah with ropes. They pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. (13a). The Lord God will send ropes to save a rocky marriage or a strained relationship with the spouse, children or family members. He will never leave us in a dry, dead, dark well of disappointment.

2.         Royalty: The Lord moved the heart of the Ethiopian Eunuch the king’s official to save Jeremiah. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern. (vs 7). He will raise people in authority to pull us out of the muddy well and the professional challenges that we face. The most unexpected people will come to our aid at our workplace and business to open streams that will fill our financial well with fresh water.

3.         Remedy: The Lord has a divine remedy for the diagnosis that medical science does not have. The Lord can heal us miraculously or medically but he will bring us out of the dry well of sickness.

The Lord will send ropes, royalty, and divine remedy to pull us out of the dry well.

Psalm 18:16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, send me the roperaise royalty to arbitrate and unleash your divine remedy to set me free from the dry well. Amen.
