27 September 2024 – The Divine Workshop – Part 5

Genesis 1:20-21  And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

The first inhabitants with motor skills and instincts were the sea creatures and the birds of the air. The World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) estimates about 242,000 marine species living in the oceans and they continue to discover 2,332 new species every year! Ornithologists, who research in the branch of science about birds, declare that there are 9,500 to 11,000 species of birds. The birds had a kick start ahead of humans’ to populate and reproduce; hence there are about six times more wild birds than humans on Earth.

Darwin’s theory of evolution is based on the idea that all species are related and gradually change over time. This is not only disapproved by the theologians but also by eminent paleontologists (scientists who study the history of life on earth through the fossil record) and all our greatest geologists (scientists who research the earth, its history, nature, materials and processes). The fossil record established two important facts: that most species are unchanged in all their documented history and secondly, a species does not arise gradually, but appears all at once and “fully formed.”

The angelic hosts must have stood in awe at the thousands of swimming creatures that crammed the oceans and the flying birds that swamped the sky. The stars sang merrily when they saw their flying companions in the sky and the angels joined the chorus of the joyful cosmic choir.  When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:7).

Creation in the divine workshop did not stop with Genesis 1; His creative power still creates, transforms, reforms and performs miracles.

The Divine Workshop:

1.         Motive: All of God’s creation has a purpose. Nothing was created aimlessly just to occupy space. The Lord God filled the waters and the skies with living creatures. Moths, mammals and the myxozoa have a purpose. We have a purpose for our existence. It is not just to eat, work and be merry. Discover your purpose and live purposefully.

2.         Miracle: The miracle of creation should be understood in its entirety to comprehend the Bible. Jonah in the fish’s belly or water turning into wine can be ingested only if we digest the miracle of creation. God created everything from nothing.

3.         Multiplication: The commission for the fish and the birds were to populate and multiply. There is growth only when God blesses what we do. When God blessed His creation they multiplied, reproduced and were fruitful.

God created everything into being from nothing. God’s Word into the empty space sprang froth life and His blessing multiplied His creation.

Genesis 1: 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let  birds multiply on the earth.

Prayer: Master God, speak your word and we will live purposefully and fruitfully.  Amen.
